I’ve stuck mine to plenty of random hotel stuff and it’s stayed put. The one time it slipped was on a glossy painted surface, but on metal or anything with a slight texture it’s rock solid.
Screen material can absolutely affect how motion looks, so you’re not imagining it. Mine was fine for slow stuff but fast pans looked a bit smeary compared to my old wall. Not a delay exactly, just the surface doing its thing.
If the light is buried under a shirt, it’s not doing anything for you. The siren still works fine, but the strobe only matters if someone can actually see it. I’d clip it somewhere visible if you care about that part.
The app is doing the actual translation work, so no, you can’t just leave the phone in your pocket and expect it to fire up on its own. That’s the part people keep glossing over. Glasses are basically a mic and speaker.
The idea that settings will magically fix this is overselling it. I’ve messed with exposure compensation on mine and all it really does is shift the problem around. You brighten the shadows and the sky turns into a washed out mess. You darken it to save the sky and the shade goes black. There’s no magic middle ground because the camera is trying to cram a huge brightness range into one frame.
What actually helped me was where I point the camera. If I aim slightly lower so less sky is in the frame, the camera adjusts for the shade and the trees look way better. Not exactly a fix, but it’s free and it works more often than fiddling with menus.
I do think the wide lens makes it feel worse than it is. You’re grabbing so much of the scene at once that both the bright and dark parts end up in the same shot constantly. On a narrower view you’d naturally avoid half of this.
So it’s normal, not broken, and tweaking will only get you so far. I just accepted the darker shade look on mine after a few rides of trying to outsmart it.
I wouldn’t expect much past a few steps. Mine started losing suction about halfway up, and the brush was basically useless by the end. Stick to spot cleaning.
A week is nothing. I say that as someone who actually started cranking the jaw forward around day four because I figured the worst that could happen was some soreness. It did not help. My jaw was aching by the morning and my snoring did not improve at all. So I backed it off and left it alone for almost a month before I touched that adjustment again.
That month was the useful part. The boil and bite part needs to settle and your mouth needs to stop noticing the thing is there before you can tell if a jaw change actually did anything. If you start moving it around while you are still getting used to the fit, you have no baseline. Everything feels weird so you cannot tell what is the fit and what is the jaw position.
The instructions being vague about timing is a real annoyance. They should just print a number instead of saying gradual. I would not touch the jaw setting until you have had a stretch of nights where the mouthpiece basically disappears and you are not thinking about it. For me that was somewhere around three weeks. Before that I was just guessing and making my jaw sore for nothing.
If your snoring is bad enough that a few more weeks sounds unbearable, that is a different problem, but changing the setting early did nothing for me except make the mornings unpleasant.
It’ll still work as a viewer without the card, so if you just want to look around at night you’re fine. But if you think you’ll want any proof of what you saw later, you’ll kick yourself for not having it. Storage is definitely not built in, that’s on you to sort out. Just order the card at the same time and save yourself the hassle.
The whole “will it wreck my paint” thing gets old fast. I used mine on a painted wooden fence panel last summer and it was totally fine. No stripping, no marks, nothing. And that paint was already old and peeling in a couple spots, so if it was going to lift, that would’ve been the time. People treat this thing like it’s some industrial pressure washer that’s going to chew through anything. It’s not. It’s a hose nozzle with a bit more focus. If you hold it six inches away and park it on one spot, sure, you might see some wear, but that’s user error at that point. The bench will be fine. Just move the spray around like a normal person and don’t stand there blasting the same crack for five minutes. I wouldn’t lose sleep over it.
That leftover film is just what happens when you don’t work it down enough. It’s not a defect or anything weird with the cloth. I’ve done it too when I got impatient and moved to the next panel too fast. A quick second pass usually clears it right up.
It’s a wear item, not much more to it. Mine softened up too after a month of regular use but it never got to the point where it was useless. I just use the other side more now. Pressing harder won’t help, if anything that’ll probably wear it down faster.
Mine does the same thing if I don’t have it positioned right, but I found it stays put once I actually lean back into the couch and let it settle. It’s not a miracle fit, but it’s not sliding off me every time I move either. The massage makes up for the occasional readjustment.
Mine are chunky, thick framed plastic things, not wire rims. They fit, but it’s not a clean slip-on situation. I have to angle them a bit so the arms don’t dig into my temples. Once they’re on, they stay put, but I wouldn’t call the fit “comfortable” for a long haul drive. It’s more like “tolerable.” The nose bridge on the PolorVision sits higher than I’d like, so they sort of rest on my frames instead of my face. That’s fine for short trips but after about 45 minutes I feel the pressure. If your glasses are really wide at the hinges, I’d be a little cautious. There’s flex in the arms, sure, but it has a limit. I’d rather they be a bit roomier than they are.
If you’re cleaning it after each use, it should last a while. I’ve had mine for about three months of weekend use and it still pulls out light scratches fine. Mine just gradually needed more passes to get the same result, so I switched when the effort wasn’t worth it anymore. It’s not like it dies mid-rub, you’ll just notice it’s not doing much.
It’s probably fine. These things don’t need to be perfect, just good enough to get the job done in a panic. If it’s sitting over the mouth and nose without obvious gaps, I wouldn’t overthink it. You’ll have bigger things to worry about if you actually need to use it.
It doesn’t need a window because there’s no exhaust hose, so yeah, it’s mostly just moving air around. If you’re expecting it to cool the whole room like an AC unit, you’re probably going to be disappointed.
Alright, thanks for the replies. Sounds like it mostly works for framing shots, which is all I really need it for anyway. I’ll probably just give it a quick try before my next trip and stop overthinking it.
I mean, if your throat already feels fine with the humidifier, I’d probably skip the tape. Seems like extra hassle for a problem you don’t really have.
Yeah, that sounds about right. These chargers are fine for topping off but not really built for full speed on a laptop.
