I’ve had mine about three weeks and I still open the app first out of habit. My understanding is the phone basically does the heavy lifting, so the glasses alone aren’t doing the translating. Curious if anyone’s gotten it to kick in hands-free reliably though.
I’ve been using it for a few months and honestly never timed it once. I just spray a panel, grab my cloth, and start buffing once it stops looking wet. Some spots I probably hit too early and they still came out fine after a second pass.
We’ve got a septic setup too and I’ve used it a handful of times on the bathroom sink without any issues. Tank guy pumped us last spring and said everything looked normal, so I don’t think it’s wrecking anything. I still only use it when something’s actually draining slow though, not as a weekly thing.
I think it depends on the area for me. On my calves I can leave them the full 15 minutes without issue, but anywhere near a joint or the side of my neck I’m lucky to get 7 or 8 minutes before I have to shift. I just take that as my cue to move on to the next spot.
It is kind of funny reading this because my experience has been the opposite. I hang mine near where I sit on the deck and I honestly have not had a single bite since I started using it, even when I am a few chairs away from the light. Maybe I just got lucky with the placement, but I really do think the barrier claim holds up better than people give it credit for.
I think the darkness question gets more attention than it deserves, honestly. The UV-C light is doing its own thing regardless of whether your curtains are open. Sunlight isn’t going to cancel it out or anything like that. What I noticed with mine is that it’s more about your own perception than the actual sanitizing.
I personally prefer running mine later in the evening, but that’s mostly because I like having the house quiet and knowing I won’t accidentally walk into the room while it’s on. During the day, if the sun is streaming in, the blue glow is harder to see and I find myself second guessing whether the timer actually started. That’s more annoying than any real issue with effectiveness.
The one thing I would say is that if you have bright direct sunlight coming through the window, it can make it trickier to notice the lamp is on from another room. With the remote, you kind of just trust it started and walk away, but I’ve caught myself peeking back a couple times during the day to make sure. At night it’s super obvious so I don’t have that nagging thought in my head.
So no, I don’t think you need a dark room for it to work properly. But if you’re like me and prefer the visual confirmation that it’s running, you might just naturally gravitate toward using it when the lights are lower anyway. It’s more of a personal preference thing than a technical requirement.
I think people overthink this a bit. If the draft is bugging you at your desk, having it close to you is what actually matters, not where the window is. I had mine across the room once because it felt safer and I ended up just turning it off and dealing with the cold because it wasn’t doing anything for me.
I get that the tips are tiny and easy to misplace, but I think the packaging situation is better than people give it credit for. Mine came in a sturdy little box with the tips tucked into their own foam slots, so nothing is rolling around loose. It’s not fancy, but it does the job if you’re just tossing it into a drawer or a tote. I’ve had mine for a couple of months now and I just put it back in the same box after each use. It takes two seconds.
I do get the concern though, because if you’re the type to dump everything into one bag without looking, those small heads could definitely vanish. But I’d say the included box is enough for normal storage. I wouldn’t skip buying it over that.
The foaming is definitely normal, I remember being surprised by it too the first couple times. My kitchen drain used to get that gross smell no matter what I did, and the foam is what actually gets up the sides of the pipe to break down the gunk that’s stuck there. The old powder I used before was more of a fizz, this is a whole different level of bubbles.
I think the foam is what carries the stuff up and into the buildup, so it’s not just for show. As long as you’re not filling the sink to the brim with it, I wouldn’t worry. It settles down after a few minutes and then you just flush it with hot water like the instructions say. My pipes have been draining way better since I switched, so I’d say let it do its thing.
It’s funny, I actually thought the opposite when I first got mine. I remember the old Tile being kind of weak in my opinion, like I’d be digging through a couch and still missing it because the sound just didn’t carry. My iTagPro seems to have a slightly higher pitch that cuts through better for me. I have it on my keychain and I can usually hear it from the next room pretty clearly. Maybe it depends on the model or even the battery, or maybe my hearing is just going, who knows. But I definitely don’t remember the Tile being that loud, so I was pleasantly surprised with this one. It’s possible your unit is just a bit quieter, but I wouldn’t assume that’s the standard for all of them.
Mine does that too, I think it’s just from the moisture sitting against the plastic. It started happening around the same time for me and it’s never gotten worse or anything. I just check the line and move on, doesn’t really bother me.
That’s kind of what I figured might happen, but we’ve actually had the opposite experience so far. My sister and I are within about a kilo of each other and it hasn’t mixed us up once in the few weeks we’ve been using it. Maybe we just got lucky with how the app assigns the profiles, but it’s been pretty seamless for us.
The difference for me wasn’t even the auto network stuff, it was how fast the thing actually boots up and connects. My old one took forever to get going and sometimes just gave up. The Pro is ready before I’ve even found a seat at the gate.
I wouldn’t rely on it as your only protection. I brought mine to a family cookout near some woods and the bugs were definitely not swarming the light itself, but they were still all over people who were standing a few feet away. I think it does a decent job of keeping the immediate area around the lamp clear, but it’s not doing anything magical for your whole campsite. Keep the spray in your bag.
The cord on mine reaches pretty far, so I wouldn’t stress too much about that. I have mine tucked in a corner on a low bookshelf, not right up against the wall but close enough that the cord runs straight down to the outlet. I didn’t want it fully surrounded by stuff just because it pulls air from somewhere, but it’s not like I cleared out a whole zone for it either. My nightstand is maybe two feet away and I haven’t had any issues. I think people get too worried about the whole clearance thing. As long as it’s not shoved under a blanket or wedged against a pile of clothes, it’s probably fine. Just plug it in where you want it and see if it gets too warm around the spot after a few minutes.
I think the flatness worries get blown out of proportion. I have mine hanging from a couple of hooks in my garage setup and it sits fine, the image looks great even with a bit of movement in the fabric. You will notice some texture if you stare at it from the side, but from where you actually sit it’s a non-issue.
I think you can technically record without the phone, but you’re basically flying blind then. The whole point of having that live view is seeing what the camera sees before you hit record, otherwise you might as well just point it up and hope for the best. I wouldn’t want to fly mine that way.
I think it really just depends on the unit you got, honestly. Mine drains pretty quick if I leave the screen on while I’m messing with settings, but if I just flip it on, grab a clip, and shut it down, it gets me through most of the day no problem. The battery meter also seems to drop faster in the first half hour, then it evens out, which threw me off at first.
I’ve had mine in a fairly open carport for a few months now, not exactly a garage but similar vibe with the cold and draftiness. It’s been fine, no issues with the weather or anything. What I noticed is that it seems to work better when there’s less clutter around. My carport has a bunch of boxes and random stuff stacked up, and the mice still found their way to the corners where the sound probably didn’t reach. When I moved it closer to that area, it seemed to help more. So I’d say the open space isn’t a problem, but the stuff in the way might be. If your garage is pretty tidy, I’d give it a shot. If it’s packed with shelves and storage, maybe pair it with a trap or two just in case.
OBD2 ports have been pretty much the same forever, so I would not stress about the year of your car. I think the only real difference is the shape of the plug, and if it fits, it fits. Mine is older too and I just plugged it in without thinking about it.
I think people overthink this whole overheating thing. I just set mine on a shelf and let it do its thing, never really felt the need to babysit it. If it dies, it dies, battery is the real timer here.
