It is pretty normal to notice the firmness at first. I think some people are more sensitive to that feeling than others, so it is not just in your head. I would not make the final call on the first night, but you will know within a week or two if it is going to work for you.
I think it really comes down to how your mouth is shaped honestly. I got one a few weeks back and I was worried about the same thing since I’ve never been able to wear those big night guards comfortably. The Nunawave is not as slim as a retainer but it’s not like you’re shoving a brick in there either. The edges are soft enough that it didn’t dig into my cheeks or anything, which was my main fear.
For me it feels noticeable but not overpowering. I can still talk a little bit with it in, which says a lot. I don’t know how it would be for someone with a really tiny mouth though. I think if you can handle wearing a mouthguard for sports or those teeth whitening trays, you’ll probably be okay with this one.
I feel like the shifting is just kind of how these wrap things behave, but I noticed it got way better once I stopped trying to wear it so loose. I pull it snug across my chest before I settle in and it stays put through most small movements now. Leaning way down to pick something off the floor still messes it up though.
I actually like mine without ice, and I tried it both ways. The ice gives you that initial blast of cold but it melts so fast that I found myself annoyed by the end of the day. The regular mist still does the job for me, especially with the fan on high.
The count is definitely padded, no question about that. But I wouldn’t let it stop you if the price is right. You’re still getting a solid handful of the classics you actually want to play, and the filler is easy enough to scroll past once you find the good stuff.
Mine never really gave much. I remolded it once early on and that helped more than just wearing it. But if you’re waiting for the material to soften up significantly, I wouldn’t hold my breath. The snugness is kind of the point with these things.
Oiling is one of those things I always mean to do and never actually get around to. Mine has been going for about four months now and the handle is still holding up okay, just a bit duller where my hand sits. I figure if it ever starts feeling rough or looks really dry I’ll deal with it then, but so far it hasn’t been an issue for me.
