Does PestVault really last 2-4 weeks or is that optimistic?

I picked up a few PestVault pouches for my garage and pantry. The package says 2-4 weeks, but I’m wondering if that’s realistic. I feel like the scent fades after a week or so. Anyone else notice that? I’m not saying it doesn’t work, just curious if I need to replace them sooner. Maybe it depends on the space. I’m not trying to overthink it, just want to know what to expect.

I had pretty much the same expectation going in. I used to just deal with those old-school traps and sticky pads in the garage, and the whole routine of checking and emptying them was what pushed me to try pouches instead. So when I grabbed a couple of these, I figured if I got two weeks out of them I would be fine with that.

Mine actually held up closer to three weeks in the garage, which surprised me a bit because that space is not sealed up tight at all. The pantry one was a different story though. I could still smell it faintly after a month, but the scent was definitely weaker by week three. I ended up swapping that one around the three week mark just because it is a small enclosed space and I wanted to keep it working. No signs of mice either way, so I took that as a good sign.

Compared to the old trap setup, I will take this any day. No checking, no mess, no disposing of anything. I just mark the date on the pouch with a sharpie when I put it down so I am not guessing later. That helped me figure out my own replacement rhythm instead of going strictly by the package. Some spots clearly eat through the scent faster than others.

I used to think the 2-4 week thing was just marketing padding, but my experience flipped the other way. I grabbed a couple of pouches for a camper we store over winter, mostly as a cheap “why not” thing. First month I figured they were doing nothing because I never saw a single mouse inside. Then I forgot to replace them and about three weeks later I found droppings in a drawer. So for me the scent clearly does something while it lasts, but the tail end of that window is doing a lot less than the label implies.

The part I changed my mind on is the timing. I went in assuming the scent would just fade evenly, so the last week would still be half effective. It is not like that. Mine seemed fine, then it dropped off a cliff somewhere around the two and a half week mark. I could not smell much by then either, which is probably the honest signal rather than the calendar.

What I would not do is stretch it to four weeks in a small enclosed spot. If the pouch has gone flat to your nose, it has probably gone flat to a mouse too. I replace mine closer to every two weeks now and just accept that the stated range is generous.

Mine lasted closer to two weeks in a smaller space, but the garage one faded faster. I just go by the smell, honestly. Once I can’t pick it up anymore, I swap it out.

Two weeks is about the real ceiling in my experience, and even that assumes the space is small and closed up. The 4 week number on the package feels like it’s written for a sealed cabinet, not a normal room. Scent based stuff just loses punch over time no matter what the label claims, and the pouches themselves don’t really change much visually so it’s easy to assume they’re still working when they’re not. I’d treat the 2 week mark as the point where you start paying attention rather than trusting the calendar. If you can still smell it clearly, it’s probably still doing something. If it smells faint or neutral, replace it. That’s about as precise as you can get with this kind of product.

I actually got more than two weeks out of mine in a closet, closer to three. The scent fading doesn’t always mean it stopped working, in my case it kept mice out even after I could barely smell it. So the 2 to 4 weeks seems about right depending on where you put it.

Two weeks sounds about right in a closed up space. I had one in a cabinet and it was still fine around day 12 or so, but past that I couldn’t really tell. The scent fading is usually your cue.

Mine definitely went past two weeks in the pantry, so I don’t think the package is overselling it there. The garage pouch was a different story though, that one seemed done closer to ten days. I just swap them when the smell stops hitting me.

Good to know, I’ll just replace them when the smell goes.
