I mostly just want it for the smell part, not the freshness stuff. A friend has one and she said it works okay if you keep it running, but it’s not magic if you leave old leftovers in there. The no filters thing is what caught my eye too.
Mine still does its thing in stop and go, I sit in a lot of it on my way to work. The bigger thing I noticed was the shifting got less jerky after a couple weeks. Fuel-wise I can’t say I’ve seen much in that kind of traffic though.
I’d skip the magnet for hotel walls, painted surfaces are usually too slick for it to hold well. The adhesive might leave a mark though, so that’s a tradeoff depending on the place.
It’s fine for light desk work, but I wouldn’t wear it through a whole shift. I usually put mine on during the slower part of my afternoon instead.
I have one in my basement office and it’s fine for taking the edge off, nothing life changing though. Mine runs most mornings during winter and I’ve had it about four months with no issues. It’s not really a gimmick, just a small heater doing a small heater job.
I keep mine clipped to the outside of my bag mostly so the light isn’t hidden. Even a little bit peeking out makes a difference if someone’s looking your way at night.
If you cook a lot and keep your knives somewhere they can get knocked around, the wood handle is the only thing I’d keep an eye on. I’ve seen mine dry out a bit faster than I expected, so I rub a little mineral oil on it a couple times a year. Other than that, it’s been as low maintenance as any stainless knife I’ve owned.
I was a little worried about the same thing because my hands are on the smaller side too. Honestly, it was fine right out of the box. I did grip it a bit tighter than needed for the first use, but once I got going it felt pretty natural and I never felt like it was going to slip.
I have one of these and I tend to leave it on motion detect a lot, but the thing that eats my battery is checking the live feed too much. If I just let it sit and record clips, it does fine for a full day and then some. The problem is when I keep opening my phone to peek at the room, that seems to make it work harder.
I usually charge it every other night just out of habit. If I know there won’t be much going on I might push it another day, but honestly the battery indicator isn’t super precise so I don’t like to gamble too much. It’s not like a phone where you get a solid warning before it dies, it just gives up at some point.
For a couple days of light activity you’re probably fine, but if your room gets regular traffic I would just plug it in whenever you’re home and not worry about it.
I’m one of those people who started with one per room as well, but honestly I ended up adding more after the first couple weeks. Not because one pouch stopped working exactly, but because I couldn’t tell if it was doing anything at all in the more open areas. My kitchen opens into the living room so the scent probably disperses pretty fast. I have three in there now, placed kind of spread out behind the appliances and under the sink. The pantry is more enclosed so one seems fine there. I guess my rule of thumb now is if the space has a lot of airflow or connects to another room, I add a second one. If it’s a smaller closed off space, one does the job. It’s not an exact science, just trial and error.
I wouldn’t risk it on headlights honestly. NuraFix is more of a paint surface thing and headlights have that plastic coating that reacts differently. Even if the label says glass/headlights, I’d rather not find out the hard way when a proper kit is like $20.
Carpet was never really an issue for me, but I always had it on a low-pile rug. I can see how thicker plush carpet might make it feel less stable since the arch needs a firm surface to push against. You might just have to try it and see how yours feels.
I clean mine while there’s still a little warmth left, but not right after the burners have been on full blast. I think people overestimate how delicate the brush head is. It’s not like you’re dunking it into a fire pit, it’s just a bit of residual heat. I’d say go for it.
I got one in a room with two-story ceilings and it’s fine as long as you’re not expecting it to warm the upstairs.
I guess I’m the odd one out here but I don’t really bother with the ice. The regular water mode is fine for me, especially when it’s just sitting on my desk blowing my way. I tried the ice once and it felt nice for a bit but then I had to deal with the wet sponge smell afterward, so I stopped.
The case question keeps coming up but it really doesn’t matter. I keep mine in a card slot in my backpack, not even in a wallet, and it shows up fine whenever I need it. The whole point is that it pings off whatever Apple device happens to be nearby, not just yours. So if you’re walking around a city or even just at a grocery store, some iPhone is going to pick it up. I’ve had mine for a few months now and the location updates can be a bit slow sometimes, like it might take a minute or two to refresh, but it always shows up eventually. I would just get it if you want it. The no-case thing won’t be a problem.
I’ve actually used mine quite a bit for mirroring since I got it. I was in the same boat as you, mostly streaming at first, but then I went on a trip and forgot my laptop. I ended up using the mirroring to throw a bunch of photos and a few videos from my phone onto the hotel TV. It worked way better than I expected. There was a tiny bit of delay when I first connected it, but once it locked in it was fine. I wasn’t trying to game or anything, just casual stuff, and it held up for the whole night.
I think a lot of it depends on what you’re casting. Simple stuff like photos and YouTube vids have been smooth for me. I did try mirroring a live sports stream once and that got a little choppy, but my Wi-Fi in that room was pretty weak, so I blame that more than the stick. I’ve also noticed that my phone seems to connect faster than my tablet does. Not sure why, but it’s consistent.
For travel specifically, I’ve been happy with it. It’s small enough that I just toss it in my bag and I don’t have to worry about carrying extra cables or anything. If your main use is just getting your phone’s screen onto a bigger TV now and then, I’d say it does the job. I wouldn’t expect it to replace a proper casting setup for serious use, but for casual stuff it’s been solid for me.
Mine is on a shelf that faces the opposite wall from the window, so it’s not even in the same direction. Still pulled in everything I needed after the channel scan. I think the height mattered more than the window in my case.
I think it’ll do fine in a garage honestly. The sound waves aren’t going to care if it’s cold, they just bounce off whatever is around. My bigger concern would be how much stuff you have stacked in there. If the garage is cluttered, the waves won’t reach as far because boxes and shelves block them. That’s probably true inside the house too, but garages tend to hold more junk.
I’d say plug it in close to where you’ve seen the mice, like along the wall near their path, and just see what happens. It’s not like it costs a fortune or needs any setup. If it doesn’t seem to help after a few weeks, you can always move it somewhere else. I wouldn’t overthink the temperature part of it.
I think that’s just the nature of the app honestly. Mine does it too if I leave it idle for a while. It’s like the app forgets the buds are there until you give it a little nudge.
That burnt dusty smell on first heat is pretty standard for these portable units. Mine did the exact same thing and I remember wondering if something was off. It’s just the heating element warming up for the first time, so any dust or whatever that settled in there gets cooked off.
I wouldn’t worry about it unless it lingers after several more uses or starts smelling like burning plastic. Give it another couple of sessions and it should fade out. Took mine maybe three or four times before it completely went away, and now it just smells like warm air when I switch it over. The heating itself works fine, so I just assumed it was part of the break-in.
Huh, that’s a good question. I think without a hose it’s just moving air around, not actually cooling it down like a window unit would.
