I got the Epicooler for my living room which is pretty drafty in winter and I’m wondering if anyone else has tried it in a similar setup. It heats up the spot I’m sitting in fine but I feel like the rest of the room stays cold. Is that just how it is or am I expecting too much from a portable unit?

For a drafty room that’s pretty much how it goes with any portable unit, not just the Epicooler. I think you’re expecting a bit much if you want it to heat the whole space evenly when cold air keeps seeping in. As long as you’re warm where you sit it’s doing its job.

I mean, that’s kind of the deal with any spot heater, not just this one. If the room is drafty, it’s gonna fight a losing battle trying to warm the whole space. I’d just aim it right at you and call it a day.

It’s a spot heater. That’s basically what it does. You sit near it, you’re warm. The rest of the room being cold in a drafty place is just physics. I think it’s working fine.

I think you’re on the right track honestly. The Epicooler keeps my little corner warm enough, but the rest of the room stays cool no matter what I do. It’s just one of those things.

Drafty rooms are always going to be a problem for something like this. You can’t really fight a constant flow of cold air with a spot heater. It does what it says on the box.

That’s pretty much how it goes. Drafty room + any portable unit means the cold air wins everywhere except right next to it. Mine does the same thing in my office but I just sit near it and it’s fine.

Honestly I was kinda looking at the Epicooler myself but my place is drafty too so this thread is helping me decide. I wonder if blocking off the worst cracks around windows or doors would make enough of a difference for it to feel less like a losing battle.

Drafts will kill any portable unit’s efficiency, that’s just physics. You’re basically trying to heat the whole outdoors.

I mean, you kind of answered your own question. Drafty room plus a portable heater is always going to be a losing battle for anything not right next to it. The Epicooler is fine for what it is, but it’s not magic.

Honestly, drafty rooms are just tough for any portable unit. I’ve got one in my place and it’s the same story, warm right in front of it and cold everywhere else. Still does the job for me though, keeps my desk area comfortable enough.

I’m kind of in the same boat, thinking about grabbing one for my drafty office. Sounds like it’s just a spot heater situation and you can’t really expect it to push warm air across the whole room.

I’ve got a drafty room too and honestly I just accepted it’s a spot warmer. The Epicooler keeps me comfortable where I’m sitting but the rest of the space is a lost cause.

Pretty much. I’ve got one in my bedroom and it’s drafty too. It keeps me warm right where I sit, but I don’t expect it to do the whole room. Works fine for what it is.

It’s a spot heater, plain and simple. I wouldn’t expect it to warm the whole room if there’s a draft.

I’ve got mine in a room that’s not exactly sealed up tight and it’s the same deal. It does a good job keeping me warm where I’m sitting, but I wouldn’t call it a room heater. I just move it closer if I’m feeling chilly and it works fine for that.

Mine’s in a drafty room too. I think it does what it’s supposed to, keeps me warm where I’m sitting. Maybe the rest of the room just needs a bit more time to catch up, not totally sure.

I just got mine for a similar setup and honestly I’m pretty happy with it so far. The rest of the room being cold doesn’t bother me much since I’m usually just chilling in one spot anyway.
