Hey, I’m looking at the Epicooler for my small apartment but I’m a bit confused about the cooling setup. I noticed some portable units need an exhaust hose to a window, but the product page doesn’t really mention one. If I just plug it in and place it in the middle of the room, will it actually cool the air down or just blow air around?

Huh, that’s a good question. I think without a hose it’s just moving air around, not actually cooling it down like a window unit would.

I think without an exhaust hose it’s basically just a fan. Not sure why they’d market it as cooling.

I’ve got one and it definitely cools down the area right in front of it, but it’s not like a window AC that chills the whole room. I keep mine on a desk pointed at me and it’s fine for that, just don’t expect it to work like a regular air conditioner.

I keep going back and forth on this myself. The way they describe it sounds like it’s more of a spot cooler, so I’m not sure it needs a window, but then I wonder if that just means it’s not really cooling the air.

I think it’s basically a spot cooler, so it’s not going to need a window or anything like that. From what I’ve seen, it’s more for blasting cool air right where you’re sitting rather than trying to chill the whole apartment. Seems like a pretty straightforward setup if that’s all you need.

I guess it depends on what you’re expecting from it. I personally prefer the idea of not having to mess with a window hose, even if it means the cooling is more localized. Seems like a tradeoff that works for some people.

It doesn’t need a window since there’s no exhaust hose, but it’s more of a personal cooler than something that’ll chill the whole apartment. I use mine on my desk and it keeps me comfortable, just don’t expect it to feel like a real AC across the room.

I get the confusion since most portable coolers need a window hose, but this one doesn’t have one so it’s just blowing air around. It does cool down the space right in front of it pretty well though, just don’t expect it to handle a whole room like a window unit would.

Honestly I think it’s one of those things where you just have to try it and see if it works for your space.

I just put mine in the corner of the room and it works fine for me. No window needed.

It doesn’t need a window because there’s no exhaust hose, so yeah, it’s mostly just moving air around. If you’re expecting it to cool the whole room like an AC unit, you’re probably going to be disappointed.
