I don’t buy the “strong magnetic base” thing in general. Most of these cameras use weak magnets and hotel walls are usually painted over who knows what. Mine stayed up but only because I put it on a metal air vent, not the wall itself.
Figures. I ordered one before this thread existed so I guess I’ll find out the hard way. If the offline menu really is that short I’ll just send it back and stick with my phone.
UV caps are mostly to keep the inside from getting gross between washes. If you’re not going to charge it, it’s pointless. And charging a bottle cap every few days is a hard sell for me.
It fits fine in terms of footprint, but nobody seems to mention that the battery means you have to pull it out and charge it every few weeks. That’s the part that gets annoying in a small fridge. You think you’ve found the perfect little corner for it, then it dies and you have to dig around for the USB cable and find somewhere to put it while it charges. The device itself isn’t the space hog, the maintenance is. I wouldn’t worry about it blocking shelves. Just don’t shove it in a spot where you’ll forget about it for a month and then wonder why your fridge smells again.
Mine was fine from day one. The grip is slim enough that I didn’t feel like I was going to drop it. If you’ve got small hands, that usually means better control anyway.
I wouldnt hold my breath for an app setting to fix that. These are translator earbuds first and regular earbuds second. The mic is tuned for picking up your voice clearly so the translation software works, which means it grabs everything else around you too.
I took calls with mine on a bus once and stopped bothering after that. People could hear the engine and chatter like I wasnt even using a headset. Indoors with the TV off its passable, but the second theres any kind of ambient noise you might as well be on speakerphone.
Could be different if you got lucky with a firmware update, but I wouldnt count on it. If you bought them for translation on trips, fine, they do that job. If you wanted solid call quality in loud spots, you picked the wrong tool. I just use a cheap wired headset when I know Ill be outside and need to talk.
Radiator heat and this thing are not the same experience, full stop. I had one of those oil filled radiators for years and the CoolCove replaced it in my workshop. The radiator soaked the whole space slowly and evenly. The CoolCove is a directed stream. You feel it when you’re sitting in its path, but the far corner of the room stays cooler.
I think people oversell the “weak blast” thing. It’s not weak, it’s just narrow. It’s actually pretty aggressive up close. But if you’re used to that ambient, heavy warmth that radiators give off, you’ll notice the difference immediately. I run mine closer to where I’m sitting now and it works fine, but I wouldn’t say it’s a straight upgrade for heating. It’s just different. The dual purpose is the real reason to put up with it.
The outdoor mode is not some magic filter that cancels wind. It still amplifies what hits the microphone, and if the breeze is strong enough, you’re going to hear it. I see people saying it was fine for them, but that depends entirely on where they were standing and how hard the wind was actually blowing. A light breeze in a garden is not the same as a gusty open park. My experience is that the mode does try to focus on voices, but it can’t tell the difference between wind hitting the unit and actual noise. If your dad is in a spot where the wind is constant, he’s going to get sick of it fast. I would not buy these hoping they solved wind noise. I’d borrow a pair or buy from somewhere with a solid return policy if you really want to test it in his usual spot. Otherwise, you’re gambling.
If it were me, I’d just keep an eye on it. Synthetic corks aren’t all made the same. The softer ones are basically foam and can grab the screw differently than the firmer composite ones. Mine has always pushed through both types, but I’ve noticed the firmer synthetics make the motor work a bit harder. It’s not a stall, but you can hear the difference in pitch. That’s normal for a lot of these electric openers, not just this one.
What I’d actually watch for is whether it starts struggling on regular corks too. That’s the sign the motor is losing torque. If it’s only the synthetics giving it a hard time, I wouldn’t bother replacing it yet. Just hold it steady like you did and let it do its thing. If it gets worse or starts chewing up the cork, then you’ve got a real problem on your hands.
Can’t say I’ve noticed it being quieter, but then again I never owned one of the old Tiles so I’ve got nothing to compare it to. What I can tell you is that mine sounds plenty loud when I actually need it. Lost my wallet in a pile of jackets last week and heard it from the other room without any trouble.
Seems like a lot of these comparisons come down to where you’ve got the thing attached and what surface it’s sitting on. A tracker buried in a bag is gonna sound different than one clipped to a keyring in the open. That’s just basic physics, not necessarily a manufacturing difference.
If you’re genuinely worried it’s defective, test it in a few different spots before you decide. Otherwise I’d say use it for a while and see if it actually causes you problems.
Had mine for about three months now and I’m pretty convinced the limescale thing is real, at least for me. I’m in a hard water area and my old head would get crusty white buildup within a couple weeks. This one still looks clean, no scaling on the nozzles or anything. Can’t tell you if it’s doing some chemistry magic or just the material, but the visible difference is there.
The softer water feeling I’ll admit is more noticeable day to day. My skin doesn’t feel as stripped after a shower, and my hair doesn’t tangle the same way it used to. But the limescale part isn’t just in my head, my glass shower door literally needs less scrubbing now. That alone made it worth it for me. Whether it’s doing that for everyone probably depends on your pipes, but mine’s been fine.
I’ll be honest, the weight was never the issue for me. It’s the grip shape that gets old. I’ve got average size hands, and after about ten minutes of holding it in the same position, my fingers start cramping up a bit. It’s not that it’s heavy, it’s that you’re gripping a plastic handle the whole time and there’s not much room to shift your hand around.

The trigger position is fine, but the handle itself just doesn’t give you much variety in how you hold it. It’s a quick job tool, not a marathon tool. If your patio takes more than a few minutes, you’ll probably feel it in your hand before the battery dies.
I wouldnt trust that suction mount on anything but glass. Textured surfaces just dont give it enough to grab onto and its gonna end up falling off at the worst time, probably when you hit a bump. Just get a separate mount for the dash or stick it on the windshield.
Tempered glass is tempered glass. A bit of steam isn’t going to do anything to it that a hot oven hasn’t already done. I’ve used mine on the door a few times and it’s held up fine, no marks or anything. The only thing I’d watch is not letting the steam build up in one spot for too long, but that’s common sense with any glass.
TENS always felt like it was doing something to my skin rather than my back. The Back Restore vibration is way slower and heavier, more like someone pressing into the muscle. Not saying it’s a massage therapist, but it’s not that annoying buzzing feeling either.

If it reads and writes fine and the card doesn’t pop out on its own, I wouldn’t sweat it. These things aren’t built like tanks. You’ll probably wear out the battery long before that slot gives you real trouble.
Honestly, pads are consumables. They all wear out eventually, no matter what brand you buy. I’ve had units where the pads lasted a month, others where they were done after two weeks. It just depends on how often you use them and how well you clean your skin before sticking them on.
That said, if they’re not sticking as long as you’d like, just grab some replacements. They’re cheap enough online and you’re not locked into buying the brand name ones. I wouldn’t lose sleep over it. The unit itself does what it’s supposed to do, so I’d just swap the pads out and move on. Not worth overthinking.
Slippery or not, I’d be more worried about how that titanium coating holds up over time. These metal boards always feel different than plastic, that’s just the tradeoff.
I mean, it’s not exactly rocket science. Just don’t hold it right up against the glass and it’ll be fine. People act like these things are industrial sandblasters or something.
