Finger holes never felt natural to me either. I borrowed a Santoku with one for a weekend and kept catching myself ignoring it. If you’re still reaching for the old knife after a week, that’s your answer.
Probably fine for subtitles-level understanding but I wouldn’t count on it for fast dialogue. The lag builds up when characters talk over each other, and that’s half of what makes foreign films watchable. It’s more of a conversation tool than a movie gadget.
Warm at the plug is a dealbreaker for me. I’ve returned two similar plug-in heaters because of that. If it’s heating up right where it connects, that’s enough for me to pass, handy rotating plug or not.
The fan matters less than where the unit actually sits. I ran mine in a bedroom for a few weeks with a ceiling fan going the whole time, and the cooler still did its thing. It didn’t magically cool the whole room, but that was never the point. The spot near the bed stayed noticeably better than the rest of the room, fan or no fan. If anything, the fan just mixed things around a bit. Not a huge difference either way.
What did matter was how close I kept it and whether I bothered refilling the tank. When I let the water run low, the output got weak and no amount of fan helped. So if you’re trying to figure out whether the fan is “messing with it,” I’d look at the water level first. That’s the thing that actually changes the result in my experience.
I get why people argue about this. Some setups probably do feel like the overhead breeze cancels out the cooler’s output, especially if you’re sitting right under it. Mine was off to the side, so I never really had that problem. The fan on low was fine. On high it got a little pointless because the room air was moving around so much that I couldn’t tell what was coming from where.
If I had to pick, I’d leave the fan on low and not think about it much. It’s not going to break anything or make the cooler useless. But it’s also not some big performance boost. The cooler is a personal cooling thing, so as long as it’s pointed where you are, the fan is mostly background noise.
The wireless part is just sending the same data your phone would push through the cable. If the car’s DAC and speakers are decent, you’re not going to notice a difference with music. I’d be more concerned about whether the connection drops out than the audio quality, that’s usually where these adapters fall short.
I think it depends on how much stuff you keep in there more than the fridge size itself. Mine fits fine, but if your shelves are packed edge to edge then anything extra is going to be annoying. It’s small enough that it shouldn’t be the thing causing problems.
If they’re digging in when you sit, I’d probably try repositioning the whole brace before adjusting tightness. The stabilizers on mine sit differently depending on how I pull the thing on. If I put it on while standing and don’t shift it around before sitting down, the rods end up pressing into a spot that gets annoying after ten minutes or so.
I usually just slide the brace up or down slightly once I’m seated and that changes where the supports land. Doesn’t take much movement to make a difference. I’ve had mine for a few weeks now and I still do that sometimes.
Could still be a fit issue, but I’d mess with the position first before writing it off. If it’s fine when you’re walking and standing, the sizing is probably close enough. Sitting just changes the angle of everything.
I think it’s pretty normal for those readings to differ. The scale measures for a few seconds while you’re standing still, your watch is tracking all day, so they’re not really measuring the same thing. I’d treat the scale’s number as more of a rough estimate than a precise reading. If you’re tracking trends over time it’s fine, but I wouldn’t expect it to match your watch exactly.
It works okay for protein shakes, but I’d keep expectations in check. It’s not going to turn a thick sludge into something perfectly silky, but it does a decent job for the convenience. The real selling point for me is not having to shake the mug around at 6am.
If you’re planning to use it on windows, I’d keep the pressure on the lower setting and not get too fussy about perfect coverage. The spray is fairly even for a portable unit, but it’s still a pressure washer at the end of the day. You’ll get some bounce back if you’re close to the glass, but that’s more about technique than the tool itself.
For balcony glass, I’d just give it a quick rinse with the wider nozzle and then wipe down the frame after. It won’t be a disaster, but I wouldn’t expect a streak-free finish either. The water does tend to bead up and run down, so you have to work from top to bottom if you want it to look half decent.
Personally, I’d use it for the rough cleaning and then do a quick pass with a squeegee if the look actually matters to you. It saves you dragging out the hose, but it’s not replacing a proper window cleaning setup.
Foam volume isn’t a bad sign, that’s the stuff actually working its way through the pipe. My experience with the old hardware store powders was they’d sit there and barely do anything unless you had a complete blockage. I’d rather see a lot of bubbling than wonder if it’s even making contact with the gunk.
I keep mine on the top shelf, just pushed toward the back where it’s out of the way. The door seems like a pain if you’re always grabbing stuff, and I’d rather not knock it around every time I open the fridge. Hasn’t made a difference that I can tell, but the fridge is small enough that air gets around everywhere anyway.
I’d say just assume you need the phone from day one. It’s basically the screen for the camera and the only way you’ll know what you’re actually filming. Without it, you’re flying blind and hoping for the best. Not my idea of fun, but maybe that’s just me.
Adhesive on painted drywall is a gamble no matter how clean you get it first. If your walls have any texture or the paint is even slightly glossy, those hooks are going to let go eventually. I would just set it on the desk and skip the wall mount.
I wouldn’t let the garage spot worry you. The adapter uses its own local connection with the phone, so it doesn’t care what your cell reception looks like. The bigger question is whether your car’s USB port stays powered and stable, since that’s what actually feeds the adapter. If that’s solid, you should be fine.
Appreciate the replies, helpful to know the fit is mostly about the arms and not the lens width. Sounds like it works for most bigger frames but it’s not a perfect slip-on. Good enough for me to give it a shot.
I have thick nose hair too and honestly the pulling thing depends more on how long you let it grow. If I stay on top of it every couple days it just clips through fine. Let it go two weeks and even this thing struggles a bit. Not horrible, but it’s not magic either.
That smell is pretty common on units that do both heating and cooling, especially when they are new. The heating element sits there unused while you are running the cooling side, and dust just collects on it. First time you actually fire up the heat, that dust burns off. It smells like a dusty, slightly warm air. Usually clears up after a few uses.
I would not worry about it unless it keeps going for a week or if it smells like burning plastic. That would be a different thing. But a quick dusty smell on a brand new unit is not anything I would send back over.
Mine did the same thing when I first switched it over, and after a couple of heat cycles it stopped. I basically forgot about it until I saw this thread.
Hot/cold spots in an 80 sq ft room? Not really something I’d worry about. That’s basically a closet. I’d be more concerned about it being too much for the space if anything. You’re overthinking it.
Mine does the same thing. I figure it’s just the thermostat or relay clicking off. Doesn’t bother me, I actually kind of like knowing when it stops running.
