I’ve been using the Derila Ergo for about a week and I’m not sure if the height is right for me. I’m mostly a side sleeper and my shoulder feels a bit off in the morning. I know it’s supposed to support alignment, but maybe I need to adjust. Anyone else have this issue?

Height might actually be fine, the issue is probably that your shoulder is digging into the foam instead of the pillow filling that gap. I had the same thing with a similar shape and what fixed it for me was sliding the pillow back a bit so the wing sits under my neck, not my ear. Took a few nights to click.

I’d probably just try folding a small towel under the pillow for a couple nights to see if the extra bit of height helps your shoulder. If it still feels off after that, I’d look at whether the pillow is just too soft for side sleeping.

I get why you’d think it’s a height problem, but a week really isn’t long enough to judge that. I had the same shoulder thing for the first couple weeks with mine and was convinced I needed something taller, then it just kind of settled down as I got used to sleeping on it. Your body’s probably still figuring out where to put itself on a shape that’s nothing like a normal pillow.

I actually think people give up on these way too fast because the first few nights feel weird and they assume it’s wrong. Not saying yours is definitely fine, but a week of morning shoulder stuff doesn’t really tell you much yet. Mine took closer to three weeks before I stopped noticing it at all, and now side sleeping on it is honestly fine. Give it a bit longer before you start changing things around, that’s my two cents.

I actually think the height thing gets blamed way more than it deserves. When I first got mine I was convinced it was too flat for side sleeping, and I spent a good two weeks kind of annoyed about it. But then I realized I was still sleeping half the night on my old regular pillow out of habit, so I wasn’t really giving the Derila a fair shot. Once I actually stuck with just the one pillow for a stretch, the shoulder stuff mostly went away on its own.

I’m not saying everyone adapts the same way, and a week is honestly not that long in pillow terms. But I’d push back a little on the idea that the height is just wrong for side sleepers in general. Plenty of us side sleep and end up fine with it once the shape stops feeling weird.

What changed my mind was mostly time, not tweaking. I stopped expecting it to feel like a normal fluffy pillow and started noticing my neck wasn’t as angry in the mornings. The shoulder thing faded somewhere around the third week for me.

Curious whether you’re flipping onto your back at all during the night? That was part of my problem early on and it made everything feel off even when the pillow was doing its job.

A week is barely enough to know anything. I’m a side sleeper too and the Derila actually worked better for me once I stopped expecting it to feel like a regular pillow. My preference is a thinner profile though, so if you’re used to something taller this thing will feel off for a while.

Side sleeping on that thing felt like a brick to me.

I’m a side sleeper too and it just never felt tall enough for me. My shoulder was fine but my neck ended up sore, so I gave up on it after a couple weeks. Could be a me thing, but I don’t think that shape works for every side sleeper.

Mine felt flat too until I flipped it around the other way. The higher edge goes under your neck, not your head, and that made a surprising difference for me. Took me a bit to figure that out.

A week is nothing for a pillow like this. I had shoulder weirdness for close to a month before things settled down, so I don’t think you can call it a height problem yet. Give it a bit more time.

Probably just not tall enough for your shoulders.

Side sleeping on it just didn’t work for me either. My shoulder was fine but I kept waking up with a stiff neck, so I went back to my old pillow after a couple weeks. Some pillows just aren’t built for certain shoulder widths.

Shoulder issues after a week usually mean the pillow’s too low for your frame, not that you need to “adapt” to it. I’d stop forcing it and try something taller, otherwise you’re just gambling with your neck.

I’m still debating whether to order one, so this thread is useful. I do wonder if it depends on how broad your shoulders are, since two side sleepers can need totally different heights. My last pillow was fine for my partner and awful for me, so I’m not sure there’s one right answer here.

I actually prefer mine a little lower.
