Used a cheap citronella lantern for years, grabbed a MozzDefense for camping this season. Light modes are fine and portable, but the whole “invisible barrier” ultrasonic thing smells like marketing to me. Had one night with fewer mozzies but could have been luck or wind. Anyone actually switched and noticed a clear difference versus citronella?

Looks fine as a small camping light, I think the portability and brightness are the real perks. The ultrasonic “invisible barrier” sounds like marketing to me, maybe it helps a bit sometimes but don’t expect miracles.

Fine little lantern, handy to toss in a pack. The ultrasonic “barrier” claim reads pretty doubtful, so wouldn’t count on it as actual mozz protection.

Left it on a few nights while reading and I think there were slightly fewer bugs right around me, but nothing dramatic. Mostly keep it for the light, not expecting a miracle from the repellent function.

Someone said they keep it for the light, same here. I’m skeptical about the ultrasonic so I’ll leave it on a calm night and see if it actually does anything, maybe it won’t but maybe I’ll get lucky.

It’s a handy little lamp, I think, but the ultrasonic claim feels sketchy. Maybe it cuts down a few on calm nights, but I wouldn’t trust it as your only protection.

Not convinced the ultrasonic “invisible barrier” is legit, feels like marketing to me. Still a handy little lamp for trips or porch use. Small thing: hang it around shoulder height so the light actually fills the seating area instead of just lighting the ground.

I picked one up for a trip and the lamp itself is handy. I think the ultrasonic “barrier” is iffy though, maybe I had one calm night with fewer bites but could easily be chance. Not convinced it’s noticeably better than other small tricks.

I don’t think I’ve ever really tested the ultrasonic thing properly, I just kind of turn it on and hope for the best. The light itself is good enough that I keep using it even if the bug part is a bit questionable.

I just use mine for the light mostly, the mosquito part is a bonus if it helps at all. Battery lasts long enough for a weekend trip which is nice.
