MemberI’ve had my Qinux Talkbuds for a few weeks now and they work fine for the most part, but I’m wondering if it’s normal that the app sometimes takes a couple of tries to connect. Like, I open it and it says no device, then I have to toggle Bluetooth or restart the app and it’s fine. Is that just how it is, or should I be doing something different?

MemberI actually haven’t had that issue with mine, and I’ve had them for about two months now. The app connects pretty much right away for me, usually before I even get the earbuds fully in my ears. I’m on an Android phone though, so maybe that makes a difference? I’ve seen a few people mention iPhone quirks with these things.
One thing I have noticed is that if I leave the app open in the background for a really long time without using it, it can get a bit confused when I come back. But closing it and reopening it always fixes it in like five seconds, so I never really thought much of it.
Maybe try forgetting the device in your Bluetooth settings and pairing them fresh? That cleared up a weird hiccup I had with mine where only one earbud would connect. Hasn’t come back since.

MemberMine have been the opposite, actually. I’ve only had them for about three weeks, but the app connects on the first try every time so far. I do make sure the earbuds are out of the case before I open the app, though. One time I opened it while they were still charging and it said no device, so I could see how someone might run into that if they’re not paying attention.
I also noticed that if I switch between my phone and my laptop during the day, the app gets a little confused. That’s more of a Bluetooth thing than a Talkbuds thing though, in my experience. Every pair of earbuds I’ve owned does that.
What phone are you using? I’ve got an Android and I wonder if that makes a difference. My friend has the same earbuds with an iPhone and she’s mentioned the app being slow to recognize them, but she also never closes apps on her phone, so who knows.
I’d say if toggling Bluetooth fixes it, it’s probably just the usual Bluetooth handshake being finicky. The app itself seems fine once it actually finds the earbuds. It’s not like it drops the connection mid-translation or anything, at least not for me.

MemberMight just be one of those Bluetooth quirks. Apps like that are hit or miss sometimes depending on the phone and what else is connected. If toggling fixes it, I wouldnt stress too much. Annoying, sure, but not exactly a dealbreaker.

MemberThat’s interesting, I’ve seen a few people mention that. I usually just make sure the buds are out of the case before I open the app and it seems to help. Maybe it’s a timing thing with how the Bluetooth wakes up.

Lisa BassMemberThe app can be like that sometimes with mine too. It usually happens when I haven’t used the buds in a couple days, and I just have to close everything out and try again. Its a bit annoying but once its connected it stays connected.

d4nielParticipantMine do that too, but only when I switch between my phone and laptop. If I have them connected to the laptop and then open the app on my phone, it always says no device. I have to disconnect them from the laptop first, then it finds them right away.
I don’t think it’s a big deal. Bluetooth stuff is always like this. I’ve had way worse with other earbuds where the app just never connects at all. At least with these it works after a quick toggle. I’d say it’s normal enough.

MemberCan’t say I’ve run into that, and I’ve had mine since the spring. App opens, buds are already there, done. Maybe it’s a phone thing more than the buds themselves, I’ve seen Bluetooth act weird on certain Android updates. But no, mine connects every time without the song and dance.

MemberMine will do that if I don’t have the app fully closed from the last time. If it’s been sitting in the background for a while it seems to lose track of the buds, but if I swipe it away and reopen it, they show up right away. I’ve just gotten into the habit of closing it out first.

MemberI think a lot of it comes down to how the app handles the handoff between the phone’s own Bluetooth menu and the app’s internal connection. I’ve noticed mine will show as connected on the phone itself, but the app still acts like it can’t see the earbuds until I tap into the app’s connection screen and let it search again. It’s almost like the app doesn’t trust the system connection and wants to verify it on its own.
What’s weird is it seems to happen more often when I haven’t used them in a while. If I use them daily, the app connects on the first try pretty much every time. But if I leave them sitting for a few days, the first open is always the one that fails. So I just got into the habit of opening the app first, then taking the buds out of the case, and that seems to help. Not sure if that’s the actual fix or just a coincidence, but it’s been working for me.

MemberMine does that too, honestly. It’s weird because the buds connect fine to the phone itself, it’s just the app that acts like it can’t see them. I’ve had the same thing where I gotta kill the app and reopen it. I just figured it’s one of those apps that needs a minute to catch up. Not a dealbreaker for me since the translation part works once it finally connects.

MemberI think that’s just the nature of the app honestly. Mine does it too if I leave it idle for a while. It’s like the app forgets the buds are there until you give it a little nudge.

MemberI get that with mine too but I noticed it happens way more when I haven’t updated the app in a while. I ignored the update for like a month and it got really bad, then after I updated it went back to only being occasionally annoying. Still not perfect, but the update thing seemed to help a lot.

MemberHonestly I just accepted that about the app. It’s kind of like the buds themselves are always ready but the app needs a minute to wake up and remember what it’s doing. I mostly use mine for music and calls during the week and then for translation when I’m on holiday, and it’s the same thing every time. If I haven’t opened the app in a day or two, it acts like it’s never seen the buds before, then I close it properly and try again and we’re good.
What I found is that it’s way more reliable if I put the buds in my ears first, let them connect to the phone on their own, and then open the app. If I open the app first and then try to put the buds in, that’s when it gets moody. Not sure if that’s actually how it works or if I just got into a routine that happens to line up with when it decides to cooperate.
The funny thing is, once it does connect, I never have issues mid conversation or anything. It’s only that initial handshake that’s a bit clunky. I do wish it was smoother because when you’re standing in front of someone trying to switch languages, the last thing you want is to be fiddling with your phone. But for everyday use it’s one of those things I just got used to, like how my wifi printer needs a nudge sometimes.

MemberThe whole Bluetooth handoff thing is the annoying part for me too. Mine will connect perfectly to the car and my laptop, no drama. But the app? Sometimes I have to open it, close it, and then go into my phone settings and force it to reconnect before it finally sees the buds. It seems to happen more often if I haven’t used the translation feature in a couple of days. If I use them daily for calls or music, the app wakes up and finds them right away. It’s like the connection goes into some kind of sleep mode that the app can’t figure out on its own. I stopped worrying about it since it’s always worked after the second try, but it does make you look a bit silly when you’re trying to demo the thing to someone.
