Qinux PolarBreeze remote range?

Quick question about the Qinux PolarBreeze remote. Does it work from across a small room or do you need to be pretty close? I’m thinking of putting one on a shelf and controlling it from the couch. Also wondering if the remote is the only way to change settings or if there are buttons on the unit itself. Not a dealbreaker, just trying to figure out placement.
