MemberI think for garden water it’s more of a nice-to-have than a must. My neighbor has run a plain barrel for years and his tomatoes seem perfectly happy. The main thing I’d care about is keeping leaves out so the barrel doesn’t turn into soup.

MemberI mostly go by the general 100Wh limit, but the one thing that actually caught me out is that some airlines cap the number of spares you can bring, not just the size. I had two small ones in my backpack and got asked about the second at a gate in Asia. Now I just carry one and leave the spare at home.

MemberMine gets hot enough that I’ve accidentally steamed my knuckle more than once while cleaning the bathroom, so it’s definitely not just warm mist. I figure that’s good enough for me. I mostly care that it blasts the crud out of the little grooves around the faucet, and it does that better than any spray bottle I’ve tried. If the steam is hot enough to make me yelp, it’s probably doing something useful on the germs too.

MemberDaily full scans are a lot to ask from any of these scales. I’ve got a different brand with a handle and I usually plug mine in every couple months, so that 180 day thing is definitely a best case number. You’ll probably land somewhere in that range if you skip a day here and there.

MemberGood to know, I’ll just leave mine plugged in then.

MemberThe window thing gets passed around a lot but I think people mix it up with old smoke alarm advice. Carbon monoxide and gas don’t really care about windows, they spread through the room and find their way into whatever space is available. What actually matters is that the unit isn’t blocked by furniture or sitting right behind something so air can’t reach the vents.
One practical thing I’d throw in since nobody’s mentioned it yet, and it’s the reason I ended up moving mine. These plug in units stick out from the wall a fair bit, and in my kitchen the outlet sits right where I swing the cabinet door open. Took me about two weeks of knocking the thing loose before I gave up and moved it to a different outlet. So before you commit to that weird kitchen spot, just picture your normal daily movement around it. If you’re gonna bump it every time you grab a pan, that’s the real problem, not the window.
Mine also has a little screen showing live numbers, and it’s been interesting watching it tick up slightly when the stove’s been running a while. Nothing alarming, just small changes. That kind of feedback is actually useful because you learn what normal looks like in your place. If you plug it into that odd outlet and the readings look reasonable day to day, you’re probably fine.

MemberI actually keep mine in a different spot than my cards, and it’s mostly because of how I use my wallet day to day. I’ve got one of those bifold wallets with the flip-out card section, and I found that when the Guardality was jammed in with everything else, pulling out the card I actually wanted to pay with felt more fiddly. Not a huge deal, but annoying enough that I moved it to the back slot behind my IDs. So it’s still in the wallet, just not sharing space with the tap cards.
My preference is definitely separate slots though. I like knowing exactly where it is when I open the wallet, and it keeps the stack from getting too thick in one spot. I’ve had the same wallet for about two years now and the card section is already pretty stuffed, so anything that adds bulk to one slot makes it harder to flip through. Putting the Guardality by itself in the back solved that for me.
I know some folks just toss it in with everything and call it a day, and that’s totally fine. I just found I prefer having it in its own little home. Makes the wallet feel more organized, and I’m less likely to forget it’s even there.
