Been looking at the Qinux ScryneX for a while now, but I’m not into permanent setups. If I just hang it with hooks or tape, will it sit flat enough for a decent image, or am I going to be staring at wrinkles the whole time? I get that no projector screen is perfect, but I don’t want to fight with it every movie night.

I went the tape route with mine and honestly expected the worst, but it sat flatter than I thought it would. A few small ripples showed up near the bottom corners, but once the movie was running I stopped noticing them. Not saying it’s perfect, but it didn’t turn into a wrinkly mess like I’d feared.

Mine has been hanging with a couple of hooks for about two months now and I have not had any real issues with it. There is a slight wave along the bottom edge but it is barely noticeable unless the projector is shining right on it. I think people expect it to behave like a framed screen and it just does not. For a casual movie night it has been totally fine for me.

I hung mine up with just a couple of command hooks and it’s been fine for the few times I’ve used it. There’s a tiny bit of wave near the bottom edge but honestly you only notice it if the screen is totally white. Once a movie is playing I forget it’s even there.

I think it depends on how much you’re willing to fiddle with it. I had mine up with tape for a while and the middle stayed fine, but the corners just would not cooperate no matter what I did. It’s not terrible, but if you’re the type who notices those little waves during bright scenes, it might bug you more than you expect.

If you’re the type who can’t stand any kind of visual imperfection, you’re going to notice stuff. I had mine up with tape for a weekend setup and the corners were fine, but the bottom edge had this soft wave that never really pulled tight. It didn’t ruin the movie, but it was there.

The trick is that the material relaxes a bit after it hangs for a while. First night it looked okay, second night it looked a little better. But if you’re expecting it to look like a tensioned frame screen, that’s not what this is.

For a casual hangout or a backyard thing, it’s good enough. If you’re the kind of person who pauses the movie to fix a tiny ripple, you’ll be annoyed. I keep mine rolled up when it’s not in use and just deal with a few minutes of settling before I start. That’s the tradeoff for not drilling holes in the wall.

I tried the tape thing once and honestly the corners kept curling up on mine. The middle was fine but the edges just would not behave no matter how much tape I used. Kind of gave up and just leaned it against the wall instead. Works good enough for me that way, but if you want it hanging flat you might be fighting with it more than you’d like.

I guess it really comes down to where you’re putting it. I used mine in a bedroom for a few months with just two nails in the wall and it stayed surprisingly flat. The top corners had a tiny bit of give if the air moved, but during a movie you honestly didn’t notice it. I think the material has enough weight to it that it doesn’t crinkle up like a bedsheet. What got me was taking it down and putting it back up a few times. That’s when it started holding some creases from how I folded it. So if you’re planning to set it up and leave it for a while, I’d say go for it. If you’re taking it down every single weekend, you might end up chasing wrinkles more than you want.

I have zero patience for setup fuss and mine hangs fine with just a couple of hooks. No wrinkles that matter during a movie, and I’m not gentle with it. I think people who complain are expecting it to behave like a rigid TV, which it’s never going to be. If you’re okay with that, it’s fine.

Tape and hooks give you a decent picture as long as you’re not inspecting the edges during the movie. I’ve had mine hung in a hallway for a few weeks now and the middle stays tight enough that I forget it’s not framed. It’s only when the light hits it from the side that I notice any waviness. I think the flatness worries get blown out of proportion. I have mine hanging from a couple of hooks in my garage setup and it sits fine, the image looks great even with a bit of movement in the fabric. You will notice some texture if you stare at it from the side, but from where you actually sit it’s a non-issue.

The fabric has a bit of give to it, so as long as you pull it snug when you hang it, it stays pretty flat.
