MemberI used a basic neoprene sleeve for a while and it was fine, just a bit hot and it would slide down. Now I’m looking at the DrFlexa and wondering if the side stabilizers make it feel stiffer when you bend your knee. I don’t need heavy support, just something for walking and light workouts. Does it feel more restrictive than a plain sleeve? I’m okay with a little extra bulk if it stays put better.

MemberSide stabilizers definitely make it feel stiffer when bending.

MemberI get more restriction from plain sleeves honestly. Mine used to bunch up behind the knee, which bugged me more than any side piece ever did. The DrFlexa stays put so I forget it’s on during walks.

coffeeandscreensParticipantI mainly care if it stops the sliding, and the silicone grips seem to be the whole point there. A little stiffness when I bend down is fine if the thing actually stays on my leg. My old sleeve ended up around my ankle half the time.

MemberI don’t find the stabilizers restrictive at all compared to a plain sleeve. The sleeve is the one that always felt stiff to me because it bunches when you bend. The DrFlexa moves with you better even with the side pieces.

Owen21MemberThe stabilizers are noticeable but not in a way that locks your knee up. I wore mine for a couple hours of errands and forgot about the side pieces, it was the top strap digging in that got my attention. Loosen that one a bit and it’s fine.

MemberThe stabilizers did feel stiff to me at first, but the bigger issue was the fit. It dug into my thigh when I sat down, so I stopped using it for workouts and just wore it around the house.

Susan KennetMemberI only really notice the stabilizers when I’m actually bending deep, like getting up off the floor. For just walking around they’re basically a non-issue for me. The thing I’d actually think about is the straps, mine needed a couple of wears before I figured out how tight to get them without cutting in.

MemberI tried a DrFlexa and the side pieces are not the problem, they’re thin. My issue was the top strap digging in when I sat for a while, so it’s not automatically comfier than a sleeve.

MemberSleeve was hotter but the stabilizers do stiffen the bend a bit.

MemberIf I were you I’d go with the DrFlexa over another plain sleeve. I used a neoprene sleeve for about a year before switching and the difference for walking and light stuff is mostly in the staying put, not in the support. Mine doesn’t slide down at all during a normal day, which was my main annoyance with the sleeve. On the stiffness question, yes you can feel the side pieces when you bend, but it’s not like the knee gets locked or anything. For me it’s more noticeable going up stairs or crouching than just walking around the house. Light workouts are fine too. It is a bit warmer than I expected for something breathable, but not worse than the old sleeve was. If your knee doesn’t need heavy support, this is probably the right kind of step up without going full orthopedic brace.

MemberThe stabilizers really don’t make it feel stiff like you’d expect. A plain sleeve actually bothered me more because it bunched up behind my knee when I bent it. The DrFlexa stays flat and just moves with you.

MemberI’d say skip the stabilizers if you don’t need heavy support. A plain sleeve that stays put would bother me less than side pieces poking at me during a light workout. That’s just my take though.
