I’m thinking about getting the Nunawave Oral Care Pro but I can’t find a clear answer on this. Do you have to charge it fully before the first time you use it, or does it come ready to go out of the box? I know some rechargeable stuff needs a full charge first and I don’t want to mess anything up. Just curious how it worked for anyone who has one.

Mine came with enough charge to run a session or two right out of the box, so I didn’t bother topping it up first. Not sure if that’s recommended or just how it shipped, but it worked fine.

Waiting for a full charge first is a waste of time. These things don’t have the old battery memory issue, so plugging it in for five minutes before a session won’t hurt anything. If it turns on, just use it.

Mine sat in the dock for a full charge the night I got it, mostly because I wasn’t going to mess with a half-dead battery mid-session. Took a few hours. If you’re itching to try it right away you’ll probably still get one round out of it, but I just waited.

I actually ran mine down to nothing the first week because I kept forgetting to set it back on the dock, and it still charged up fine afterward. So whatever charge it ships with isn’t some fragile thing you have to baby. I don’t think there’s a strict rule here.

Mine actually came pretty much dead. I put it on the dock thinking I’d just top it off and the light blinked for ages before it went solid, so there wasn’t enough juice for a session right away. Maybe I got a unit that sat on a shelf longer, no idea. I charged it fully that first time and it’s been fine since, so it’s not like skipping the charge would’ve bricked it, but I couldn’t have just popped it in and used it out of the box like some people apparently can. If yours shows a low light when you unbox it, just park it on the dock for a bit. If it’s already showing full, use it. That’s about all there is to it.

I wouldn’t bother charging it first. Mine had enough juice for a few days of normal use before I even set it on the dock, and it’s been fine since. If it dies mid-session, just charge it and carry on.

I’d just plug it in first.

Mine was actually ready to go right out of the box, which surprised me. I used it for a couple of days before I even bothered putting it on the dock. So no, you don’t have to charge it first if you don’t want to.

I usually just leave new stuff on the dock overnight regardless, mostly out of habit. The light on mine went solid after a couple hours, so it clearly had some charge in it already. Not a big deal either way.

Mine worked straight away, didn’t bother charging first.

I just used mine right away and it was fine. Didnt bother with a full charge first and the battery still lasted me a good while. Figured id charge it when it actually needed it.

I’d just plug it in for a bit first. Not because it’ll explode or anything, but the charge it ships with is usually just enough to demo it, not do a full session. Takes like an hour to top off from what I remember.

The whole “you have to charge it fully or you’ll wreck the battery” thing is mostly leftover advice from old electronics. Modern rechargeable stuff doesn’t really work that way, and nothing about a mouthguard is going to get damaged because you tossed it in for a session at whatever charge it shipped with. If the light comes on, it’s working, and that’s kind of the end of it.

I’d say the bigger thing is just knowing where the charge level actually is before you settle into a routine with it. That part matters more than whether the first session happens at 100 percent or 40 percent. But yeah, the idea that you need to babysit the first charge is overblown.

Mine came with a decent amount of charge already, enough that I used it a few times before the light started blinking at me. What I did notice is that the first charge took longer than the later ones, which I figure is normal for a new battery. It was handy not having to wait around before trying it, since I wanted to see how it felt in my mouth first. The charging dock is small too, so it just sits on the bathroom counter without taking up much space. No idea if charging it first would have made any difference, but nothing weird has happened with mine so far.

Charge it first, mine died halfway through.

I usually ignore the whole “must charge first” thing on small stuff like this. The one exception for me is anything with a built in battery that sits on a shelf for who knows how long before shipping. I’d rather top it off than get halfway through a session and have it die. Not because the battery will get ruined, I just find it annoying to stop and wait.

What I care about more is whether the thing actually stays charged between uses. I’ve had gadgets that seemed fine out of the box and then dropped off fast after a week or two of regular use. That tells you more about the battery than the first charge ever will. So yeah, plug it in if you want, but I wouldn’t read too much into whatever charge it shows up with. That’s just what was left from the factory, not some kind of statement about how it’s supposed to work.

Mine sat in the box for a couple months before I opened it, and it still had enough juice to run a session. If you want to be safe, just top it up on the dock while you read the manual. Nothing special needed.
