I’ve had the Repellio plugged in for about a week now in the living room, and I’m wondering if the sound actually gets around the couch and bookshelf. I don’t want to rearrange everything just to make it work, but I also don’t want to assume it’s doing anything if it’s blocked. Has anyone tested this or noticed a difference depending on where they placed it?

I think people overestimate how much a couch actually blocks these things. Sound waves bounce around a room, they don’t travel in a straight line like a flashlight beam. I wouldn’t rearrange your living room just for this.

I didn’t move anything when I set mine up, just plugged it behind the armchair and left it. Took a couple weeks but I did notice less activity around the room, not just right next to it. I think as long as it’s not shoved in a tight corner you’re probably fine.

I don’t think you need to move everything. I had mine behind a floor lamp and a side table for a while and still noticed fewer ants in that room after a few weeks. If the couch is pressed right against the wall where it’s plugged in, maybe try a different outlet, but I wouldn’t rearrange furniture over it.

The way I see it, you’ve only been running it for a week. That’s still pretty early. I feel like these things need a bit more time to actually convince the pests to move along, especially if they’ve already made themselves at home behind your bookshelf. The sound doesn’t just stop at the first solid object it hits, it bounces around. A couch isn’t exactly a sealed wall.

I probably wouldn’t rearrange the whole room over it. If you really wanna know, you could just move it to a different outlet for a week and see if anything changes, but that feels like more work than just leaving it be. I’d give it another week or two before deciding it’s not doing anything.

I think the whole “blocked by furniture” thing gets blown out of proportion. I run mine in the kitchen and it’s tucked behind the toaster, which sits under a cabinet. If anything, that’s worse than a couch because it’s basically enclosed on three sides. Still saw fewer ants around the sink area within a couple weeks, so something was getting through.

The way I look at it, these things emit constantly, so even if the sound is somewhat deflected or absorbed by a bookshelf, it’s not like it has to blast through everything in one straight line. It bounces around the room. A couch is not a solid wall. Neither is a bookshelf unless it’s one of those massive built-in units that goes floor to ceiling. I wouldn’t rearrange my living room for it.

That said, I also didn’t expect it to be some miracle device that covers every corner perfectly. I just wanted less pest activity in the main areas and that’s what I got. If you’re worried, give it another couple weeks before you judge it. And if you really want peace of mind, just plug it into a different outlet that’s more in the open. No need to move furniture, just move the device itself to a socket that faces the room rather than being hidden behind something. Took me five seconds to do that and I didn’t have to touch a single piece of furniture.

I would just move it for a week and see if anything changes. That’s the only way you’ll know for sure, and it’s less work than rearranging the whole room. I had mine behind a big plant stand for a while and saw no difference, then I moved it to an open outlet near the baseboard and still saw no difference. So honestly, I don’t think the furniture matters as much as people assume. These things are so weak that placement barely seems to matter either way. The bigger issue is whether they do anything at all, and I’m still not convinced after a month. If you’re happy with it where it is, leave it. Moving it around isn’t going to suddenly make pests vanish. Either it works in your space or it doesn’t, and a couch probably isn’t the deciding factor.

I moved mine around a few times and honestly could never tell a difference in how often I saw anything in the kitchen. The only thing I noticed is that it seems louder, or at least more noticeable, when it’s in a smaller room. I think the furniture blocking it matters less than just having enough open space around the unit itself, but that’s just a guess.

My couch is against one wall and I’ve got a big shelf unit on the other side, and the Repellio is plugged in near the floor behind an armchair. I haven’t noticed any mice in the three months I’ve had it, but I also can’t say I ever saw them before to compare. What I can tell you is that I tested it once by standing in the corner of the room opposite from where it’s plugged in, and I could hear a faint high-pitched noise if I really focused. So the sound is clearly getting across the room. I think furniture matters less than the distance and what the walls are made of. If you’re really unsure, maybe just move it to a different outlet for a week and see if anything changes, but I wouldn’t rearrange the whole room for it.

I’d say the couch and bookshelf are probably not completely killing it, but I wouldn’t count on it being full strength behind solid stuff either. I had mine near a heavy curtain and a cabinet for a while, and I never really saw anything change until I moved it closer to the open floor. If you’re not seeing activity now, it might be worth just testing one spot without the furniture in the way before you go moving everything.

From what I’ve seen, these things bounce sound off walls and stuff pretty well, but I think the couch would still block some of it if it’s right in the path. I’d probably just leave it where it is for another week and see if you notice anything.

Solid objects will cut down on the range, no way around that. I had mine tucked behind an armchair for a while and saw no change, but once I moved it closer to the baseboard I noticed activity drop off within a few days. You don’t have to rearrange the whole room, just find a spot that isn’t fully boxed in.

Ultrasound doesn’t care much about a couch. It bounces around until it fades, so unless that bookshelf is wall-to-wall and floor-to-ceiling, the signal still gets out. I’d leave it where it is and judge it on whether you’re actually seeing pests, not on the furniture layout.
