So I’ve had the ChirpyCharm for a couple of weeks now, and it’s working fine for the most part. But I’m wondering about the notifications when birds show up. I get them on my phone, but sometimes they seem a bit delayed, or I miss the actual bird on the live view. Is that normal, or is there a setting I should tweak? I’m not too fussed about the exact timing, just curious if it’s just how it works.

Mine does the same thing. The notification usually hits after the bird’s already flown off, so I mostly just end up watching an empty feeder. I stopped relying on the live view for that and just check the recorded clips later. Seems like that’s just how it is.

Mine’s been pretty snappy actually. The notification usually lands before the bird even gets a chance to grab a seed, at least on my end. Maybe it’s a Wi-Fi thing or how close the feeder is to the router. I’ve had a few missed ones too, but not enough to bother me.

I think some delay is just part of how these things go. Mine will sometimes ping me after the bird’s already been at the feeder for a bit. I don’t really mind it, since I mostly check the recordings anyway. The live view is more of a bonus for me.

I just treat the notification as a heads up rather than something to catch live. Half the time I’m not looking at my phone when a bird lands anyway, so I’ll check the recording later. The delay doesn’t bother me since the footage usually captures the visit.

It’s just how it works, the app was never meant to be real time.

I think it’s just part of the deal with these cameras. Mine will sometimes send the notification while the bird is still there, other times it’s clearly after they’ve left. The app seems to prioritize recording over sending a quick ping, so if it’s busy doing that, the alert just waits its turn.

The delay doesn’t bother me much either, but I actually prefer it that way. If I got pinged the second something landed, I’d be checking my phone every few minutes all day long. The way it is now, I just scroll through the clips later and catch what I missed.

Delays are pretty standard for this kind of thing. The app has to process the clip and send it, so you’re always going to be a few seconds behind whatever already happened. I wouldn’t expect it to be real time, it’s more of a “bird was here” alert than a live alarm.

The notification delay is pretty much baked into how these cameras work. Mine does the same thing, so I just use it as a heads up that something happened rather than trying to catch the bird in the moment. I have better luck just checking the recorded clips when I get the ping.

The delay usually depends on how strong your wifi signal is out there.

What I noticed with mine is that the notification timing has a lot to do with whether the camera actually catches the bird in frame. If the bird lands on the side or half out of view, the motion detection seems to take longer to trigger. So by the time it processes and sends the alert, the bird is already gone. When it lands right in the middle of the perch, the notification comes through fast enough that I can catch it on live view. So it might not just be the app being slow, it could be how the motion is detected in the first place. Not saying that fixes anything for you, but that’s been the pattern for me.

Mine actually notifies me before the bird even lands sometimes. Strange but I’ll take it.
