MemberI’ve been using the AiraBreeze in my living room and it does the job for personal cooling. Now I’m thinking about moving it to my covered patio for the evenings. I know it’s evaporative so it might not work the same outside. Anyone tried this? Just wondering if it’s worth the hassle of dragging it out there.

Paul847ParticipantI’ve used mine out on a covered patio a bunch of evenings and it made a difference for me. Not like the whole patio got cold, but if I was sitting right next to it with a drink, that moving air plus the dampness felt pretty good compared to just sitting there in still warm air. It’s kind of the same deal as inside, you want it close, not across the yard. I ended up keeping mine maybe two or three feet away on a little side table and it was fine for a couple hours. Refilling it is the only annoying part, but that’s true anywhere. If your patio is covered and not super humid, I’d say dragging it out is worth trying at least once.

Noah KentMemberI’m in the same boat, still deciding whether to buy one, so I don’t have patio results to share. The thing I keep coming back to is that you’ll be refilling the tank more often outside since it’s probably working harder. If you’re already hauling it out there, maybe just try one evening before making it a routine.

Mike89ParticipantMine just lives on my screened porch now. It’s not going to cool the whole area but if I’m sitting right next to it with a drink it’s fine. Dragging it out there is like a 10 second job so not really a hassle. I’d say just try it one evening and see.

MemberI’d probably just leave it where it’s easiest to use. Dragging it in and out gets old fast, and if it sits on the patio you’ll actually use it. If you have to haul it every time, it’ll just stay inside.

Mike in TXMemberMine mostly sits in the garage now. On the patio it felt like a regular fan with wet air, and refilling it twice an evening got old quick. If it’s already working inside I’d leave it there.

MemberCovered patio is exactly where evaporative coolers fall flat around here. Mine did nothing except make the air feel sticky. It’s a personal cooler, not a patio cooler, so dragging it out there is wasted effort.

L_ParkerMemberI don’t buy the whole “evaporative coolers can’t work outside” thing as a blanket rule. I’ve had mine out on my balcony a few times this summer and it definitely helped. Not in some dramatic whole-area way, but sitting within a few feet of it with a cold drink, there’s a real difference compared to just a plain fan. The air coming off it feels cooler, especially once the sun’s off the space. The catch for me is that you’ve got to be close to it. Like basically within arm’s reach or a bit more. If you’re across the patio expecting to feel it, you’ll be disappointed. So for me it’s worth dragging out if I’m actually going to sit right by it for a while, not if I’m just wandering in and out. The refill thing is real but I don’t find it that annoying since I’m only using it for an hour or two at a time.

Susan KennetMemberI tried mine out on our back porch a couple of evenings last month and it was fine as long as I stayed parked right in front of it. The water tank was the annoying part, I was topping it off way more often than I do inside. So it works, just don’t expect it to do much for a whole seating area.

MemberMine actually surprised me on the patio. Evenings here are pretty dry so it added just enough cool air to make sitting outside bearable, way better than a plain fan. I wouldn’t drag it out every single night, but for a couple hours after work it’s worth it.

MemberIt mostly doesn’t. Unless your patio air is bone dry, you’re just moving damp air around. I stopped bothering with mine outside after a couple tries.

Dave RunnerMemberMine earned its spot on our screened porch this summer. Evenings here get humid, but sitting within a few feet still felt noticeably better than plain air. Dragging it out is worth it if you keep it close.

MemberMine’s been outside since June. It helps if you’re sitting close and the air’s dry, but the tank needs refilling way more out there. I’d just leave it where it is unless the patio gets a lot of use.

MemberI think the bigger question is whether you’ll actually drag it out there more than once. I’ve got a similar setup and mine keeps ending up back inside because hauling it plus dealing with the water gets old fast. If you’re the type who leaves stuff where it lands, it’ll probably stay on the patio.

MemberI wouldn’t bother dragging it out there. If it’s really dry out, yeah it’ll do something, but most evenings around here it’s just muggy and it ends up feeling pointless. Mine stays inside now.

AnnaKParticipantI mainly use mine out there when I know I’ll be sitting in one spot for a while. If I’m up and moving around the yard it’s pointless, but parked next to a chair it’s fine. Dragging it back and forth got old fast though, so now it mostly just lives by the door.

LunaMemberMine actually does fine on our back patio, but I only run it when the air is dry enough. If it’s one of those sticky evenings it just feels like a fan, so I don’t force it. Worth trying, just don’t expect it to rescue a muggy night.

MemberMine stayed way drier than I expected out there.
