I’ve been using the DrFlexa for walks and it’s been fine, but I noticed it feels a bit stiff when I sit down for long periods. Is that just how it is with the side supports? I mostly wear it at work where I’m up and down a lot, so I’m not sure if I should loosen it or just deal with it. Curious if anyone else has this happen.

The stiffness when sitting is probably from the side supports more than the straps. Those firmer bits don’t really bend with your knee when it’s bent at a desk chair angle, so they can dig in a little. That’s kind of the tradeoff with any brace that has actual stabilizers in it.

I don’t think loosening it a ton helps much either, since then it slides around when you’re walking. Some people just take it off during longer sitting stretches and put it back on when they’re moving again. Depends how much hassle that is for you at work.

The up and down thing is honestly where these braces make the most sense anyway. Long static sitting isn’t really what they’re built for.

Mine only bothers me if I crank the straps too tight before sitting. Loosening it a notch helped more than I expected, though then it slides a bit when I’m walking.

Mine stays fine at my desk, so I don’t think that’s just how it is.

Mine does the same thing and I’ve come around to thinking it’s just the tradeoff you get with those side pieces. I’ve had mine about four months now and it’s great for walking the dog or running errands, but the second I sit through a long meeting or drive somewhere far it starts digging in around the sides. Not painful exactly, just noticeable enough that I’m aware of it the whole time. I don’t loosen it because then it slides down my leg when I stand back up, which is worse. So I just live with the stiffness during the sitting parts. Whether that’s a dealbreaker depends on how much of your day is actually spent parked in a chair. If you’re mostly moving around at work it probably won’t bug you much.

Mine got on my nerves when I first started wearing it at my desk job, but not for the reason I expected. I figured it was the side pieces digging in when my knee was bent, so I tried sitting with it on and just dealt with it for a couple weeks. What actually helped was realizing I was wearing it way too low. I had it sitting almost like a sleeve instead of centered over my kneecap, and once I pulled it up so the open part was actually sitting where it should, the stiff feeling when I sat went away for the most part.

I still notice it a little if I’m in one position for like an hour straight, but it’s more of an awareness thing than actual discomfort. Standing back up and walking around for a minute resets it. I don’t think you need to loosen the straps every time you sit down unless it’s genuinely hurting, because then you’re just fighting the thing all day.

For what it’s worth I’ve been using mine about three months now, mostly at work where I’m sitting and standing constantly, and it hasn’t gotten worse or anything. It just took some fiddling to figure out where it actually wanted to sit on my leg.

Mine doesn’t stiffen up when I sit, and I’ve worn it through full shifts for a couple months now. I think the trick is that I never tighten it much in the first place. I keep it snug enough that it stays put but not so tight that the sides dig in when my knee bends. The one time I cranked it down before a long drive, it bugged me the whole way, but that was my own fault. Loosening it and then just leaving it alone fixed that. So I don’t buy that it’s just how the brace is. If yours only bothers you sitting, you’ve probably got it tighter than you need for the desk part of your day.

Mine doesn’t do that at all, so I don’t think it’s just something you have to live with. I sit at a desk most of the day and mine stays comfortable the whole time. Maybe the fit is just off or it’s not the right size for you.

Mine only gets stiff if I’ve had it on for hours without moving much. On days when I’m actually up and down constantly it stays pretty comfortable, so the sitting part seems to be the issue more than the brace itself.

I wear mine on and off through the day and it’s been fine overall. The only time it bugs me is if I’ve had it on tight during a long drive, so I usually just ease off the strap a bit before sitting down.

I’ve had the opposite experience with mine. Wore it through a long drive and a movie after, and it stayed comfortable the whole time. The side pieces flex enough that sitting doesn’t really dig in for me. Depends how tight you’ve got it, though.

Mine gets a little stiff after sitting a while too, but I think it’s just the side pieces doing their job. I usually just shift it a bit or loosen one strap when I’m at my desk and it settles down. Doesn’t seem like something that goes away completely.

I tried one for about two weeks before deciding whether to keep it, and the sitting thing was actually what made me hesitant. Standing and walking felt fine, but the second I’d sit down for like 30 minutes at my desk, the sides would start digging in a bit. Not painful, just noticeable enough that I kept adjusting it. I ended up loosening the top strap and that helped some, but then it didn’t feel as secure when I was moving around. So I get the stiffness you’re describing. I think it just comes down to how the side pieces sit when your knee bends that way for a while. For me it was a tradeoff I wasn’t sure I wanted, since I’m also up and down a lot at work. I haven’t fully decided if I’m keeping mine yet.

Ended up just loosening mine a notch, works fine.
