MemberI’m thinking about getting a MixMate but mostly for iced coffee and protein shakes. The description mentions temperature retention for cold drinks up to 12 hours, which sounds good, but I’m wondering if the stirring works well with cold liquids. Anyone tried it with cold drinks?

MemberCold mixing is fine but the ice is the problem. Mine leaves chunks at the bottom unless I let them sit for a bit first. Not a huge deal for protein shakes, annoying for iced coffee.

MemberCold liquids actually mix better in mine than hot ones. The powder dissolves quicker and nothing clumps up at the bottom. I mostly use it for protein shakes and it handles those fine.

MemberI mostly use mine for iced coffee and it handles the cold stuff fine, the powder still dissolves without me shaking it. The 12 hour thing is what actually got me though, since cold drinks really do stay cold way longer than I expected.

MemberCold drinks work, but the stirring is weaker than I expected once it’s full of ice. Mine still gets the job done if I hit the button twice. Fine for shakes, not something I’d buy just for iced coffee.

MemberCold works fine in mine. The only thing I’d flag is the battery life, two batteries die faster than I expected when you stir every drink. Nobody mentions that part.

MemberCold works for my shakes, no clumps.

MemberCold drinks are basically what I use mine for, so I don’t get the worry there. The stirring works the same either way for me. I do think it does a better job on cold stuff than hot honestly. Never had an issue with it mixing.

Zoe MatthewsMemberI’d double check whether the stirring motor is actually rated for thicker cold mixtures. Cold liquid itself isn’t the issue, but protein powder plus ice can get heavy fast.

MemberI grabbed one mainly for my morning smoothie situation and it’s been fine with anything cold I’ve thrown at it. Nothing fancy, it just does the job without me having to babysit it. The cold retention is honestly the part I notice most since I’m slow sipping all morning.

d4nielParticipantI expected the stirring to be useless with cold stuff and almost didn’t buy it because of that. It’s actually the opposite for me. I’ve had mine since spring and the cold mixing is the only reason I kept it. Protein powder in cold milk, no clumps at all, and I don’t even press the button twice.
The 12 hour thing is real enough. I fill it with iced coffee before work and there’s still ice floating around when I get home, which surprised me since I figured that number was marketing nonsense. The batteries are the annoying part but that’s not a cold drink problem.
If you’re mostly doing cold drinks you’re fine. This thing isn’t going to crush ice or blend a frozen banana, but stirring cold liquid is not harder for it in my experience. Hot drinks are the ones I’d question, honestly.

emily_rParticipantCold drinks are fine, but I don’t think the stirring is as effective once you add ice. Mine mixes powder into cold liquid reasonably well, but it doesn’t do much with actual ice chunks sitting in there. So if your iced coffee is mostly liquid with a little ice, you’re fine. If you’re expecting it to blend a thick frozen shake, that’s where it falls short for me.

MemberGood to know, I’ll probably grab one for my iced coffee then.
