MemberWe keep our RV parked at a storage lot and I’ve been using PestVault pouches inside just in case. So far no signs of mice, but I’m not sure if they’re still doing anything after a couple weeks of sitting in the heat. Does anyone else use them in a vehicle that’s closed up for long stretches? I’m mostly wondering if I should swap them out more often in summer.

MemberI use them in my truck camper that sits for a month at a time and I usually swap them every 3 weeks in the summer. The heat does seem to make the scent fade faster, I can tell when I open it up and barely smell anything anymore. Two weeks is probably fine but I wouldn’t push past three in a hot rig.

Oliver BrooksMemberI don’t think heat kills them off that fast. I’ve had a couple pouches in my shed since spring and they still had a noticeable smell when I checked last week. Two to four weeks sounds about right though, so I’d probably swap them monthly in summer rather than every couple weeks.

MemberI’d be surprised if those pouches are doing much after a couple weeks in a closed up RV in summer. Heat and stagnant air are exactly what kills off that kind of scent product. I tried something similar in a detached garage and after like 10 days the smell was basically gone. RV interiors get way hotter than people think, like an oven. The fact that you haven’t seen mice doesn’t really prove they’re working either. Mice stay out of places for all kinds of reasons. If you’re relying on scent alone in that kind of heat, you’re probably better off just replacing them way sooner or using something that doesn’t depend on lingering smell. Sitting closed up for weeks is a rough test for any passive repellent.

Tom CallMemberTwo weeks in a hot storage lot is pushing it. Mine went flat way faster once summer hit, so I just swap them monthly and call it good.

MemberI’d still swap them out in summer. I had some in a small trailer and after a few weeks the smell was basically gone, so I doubt they were doing much at that point. Every couple weeks seems safer when it’s hot and closed up.

Kevin CMemberI skip the guessing and just date the pouches with a Sharpie when I put them in. Mine quit smelling noticeable around the two week mark in a closed up trailer, so I replace them then. Not worth rolling the dice if mice are the alternative.

Rob CMemberTwo to four weeks is the honest answer, and summer heat pushes it toward the short end of that. I’ve had a pouch in the back of a parked SUV turn basically scentless in about 10 days during a July stretch, while the same kind of pouch in a shaded garage still had something left after three weeks. Same product, different oven. Heat just cooks the oils off faster, it’s not complicated.
So if your RV is baking in a storage lot, I’d swap closer to every two weeks than every month. Not because mice suddenly swarm the second the smell fades, but because you’re basically guessing after that point. The pouch doesn’t announce when it’s done. I just write the date on mine and go by that instead of sniffing around like an idiot.

MemberMine lasted closer to three weeks before the scent faded.

MemberI’ve used them in a parked car, not an RV, and after a couple weeks in the sun the scent was pretty much gone. In summer I’d swap them sooner than the label says.

MemberMine were dead in a week, so no.

MemberI’d ignore the whole “they’re done after a couple weeks” thing and just go by whether you still catch a whiff when you open the door after a hot stretch. My parents leave a couple in their camper that sits most of the summer, and they only bother replacing them when the smell fades, not on a calendar. If yours are still noticeable, they’re still doing their job.

MemberI had some in my pop-up for about a month over the summer and they held up longer than I expected. No mice got in but the smell was pretty weak by the end. Not sure I’d stretch it past a month in that kind of heat.

MemberProbably just swap them monthly and call it good.
