MemberI’ve had the Qinux ScryneX for a couple weeks and it’s fine for movies. But I tried gaming on it and I’m not sure if I’m imagining lag. Does the screen itself add any delay? I’m using a decent projector. Just curious if anyone else noticed anything.

Tom BriggsMemberThe screen itself isn’t adding lag. It’s just fabric. I’ve used mine for a few game nights and the only issues I get are from the projector’s own processing, not the screen.

MemberI’ve been gaming on mine for about a month and haven’t felt any extra delay from the screen itself. I play a lot of shooters so I’d notice. If there’s lag it’s coming from the projector, not the fabric.

MemberFabric can’t add input lag, so it’s probably your projector.

Emma JarrisMemberWe have ours set up in the basement and I use it for gaming pretty regularly, mostly slower stuff like platformers and some racing games. I did try a round of a shooter once and something felt a little off, but then I realized I had the projector in its “cinema” picture mode which does some smoothing stuff. Switched it to game mode and it felt better. So in my case it was the projector settings, not the screen at all. Which makes sense since the screen is just a surface.
The one thing I did notice is that if the screen isn’t pulled tight, the picture kind of ripples a bit when there’s fast motion, which can make it seem like the image is lagging even though it’s really just the fabric moving. I ended up re-hanging mine with the ropes a bit tighter and that helped. Not saying that’s your issue, but it’s worth checking how taut yours is.
Other than that, I’ve had mine for a few months now and gaming on it has been totally fine. Honestly the bigger factor for me was just getting the projector positioned right so the image wasn’t washed out. Once that was sorted, everything felt normal. What kind of games are you playing on it?

MemberI’d check the projector’s game mode before blaming the screen. Mine felt slightly off until I turned that on, then it was fine. The cloth itself isn’t going to add delay.

Dave RunnerMemberSwapped from a painted wall to this screen a few months back and my lap times stayed the same, so I never noticed anything off. If anything my picture looks sharper now. I’d look at your projector’s settings.

no_sleepParticipantI’m not buying the “it’s just fabric, it can’t add lag” line. I had a cheap pull-down screen a while back that I swore felt laggy, and I spent a week fiddling with projector settings before I figured out the screen had a slight gloss to it. Not input lag obviously, but the way it bounced light around made fast motion look smeary, which my brain read as delay. Swapped to a matte one and it went away. Weird but real.
Point is, surface texture can mess with how you perceive motion even if there’s zero actual latency happening. If the ScryneX has any sheen to it, that could be your issue. Mine doesn’t, for what it’s worth, but I’ve only used it for a handful of sessions and mostly slow stuff.
Also worth asking how big you’re going. I tried gaming on a 120 inch setup once and the size itself made everything feel sluggish to track, no lag involved. Went back to a smaller image and it felt snappy again. Could just be that.

MemberI’d actually disagree with the idea that the screen can’t be involved. Not saying the ScryneX is bad, but I tried gaming on a friend’s similar fabric screen once and something felt off to me too, even though he swore it was fine. Could just be how our eyes adjust to the surface, but you’re not crazy for wondering.

Mike TurnerMemberTwo weeks is enough to notice if it’s off. I had the same feeling with mine, but it only showed up in fast camera pans during shooters, everything else was fine.

MemberScreen material can absolutely affect how motion looks, so you’re not imagining it. Mine was fine for slow stuff but fast pans looked a bit smeary compared to my old wall. Not a delay exactly, just the surface doing its thing.

MemberI’ve been using mine mainly for movies too and never noticed lag, but I don’t play anything fast enough to tell. If I were buying mainly for gaming I’d lean toward a fixed frame screen anyway. The ScryneX seems more about being easy to move around.

MemberIt’s a screen, not a monitor. There’s nothing in it that can process a signal, so any delay you’re feeling is coming from your projector or your own head. I’d stop chasing the screen as the culprit.
