I’m looking at the Qinux BlastVul and I can’t figure out how the self suction thing works. If I drop the hose in a bucket, does it pull water on its own or do I need to prime it somehow? I don’t have a tap near my parking spot so that’s the only way I’d use it. Not asking about pressure or battery, just whether the suction actually works from a bucket.

Suction from a bucket does work, but people act like it’s some magic feature. I’ve used mine straight out of a 5 gallon bucket a handful of times when I couldn’t get near a spigot. You drop the hose with the little filter on the end in, turn it on, and it pulls. No priming, no pumping, nothing. First few seconds you hear it sputter while the air clears, then it’s fine.

The catch nobody mentions is the bucket empties fast. Like, way faster than you’d expect. So if you’re planning to wash a whole car off one bucket, forget it. I ended up refilling constantly.

As for whether the suction actually works, yeah, it does. It’s not weak. But don’t drop the filter in the dirt at the bottom or it’ll clog and then it really won’t pull anything. Keep it off the bottom and you’re good.

Mine pulls from a bucket without any priming, you just drop the hose in and hit the trigger. First few seconds it sputters a bit while it’s pulling the water up, then it’s fine. I mostly use it that way at my apartment since there’s no outdoor tap anywhere near the parking area.

One thing I noticed though, it doesn’t like sitting too deep or getting the filter buried in crud at the bottom. I had a bucket with some grit in it and the flow got weak until I moved the hose up a bit. So the suction itself works, it’s just the intake end that needs to stay reasonably clear. Nothing you have to babysit, just something I ran into.

I’ve got one and I kind of disagree with the whole “it just pulls straight from a bucket” thing. Mine does draw water but only if the hose is short and the bucket sits above the unit. I first tried it with a tall bucket on the ground and it just whined and barely moved anything. Once I set the bucket on a chair it worked fine. So it does self suction, but it’s way pickier about the setup than people make it sound. If you’re planning to use it that way every time I’d just test it before you rely on it.

I tried mine from a bucket and it pulled water but it was weak, so I mostly just use it hooked to a hose now. If the bucket is the only option it technically works, just dont expect much.

The self suction thing is real but people make it sound better than it is. I used mine off a bucket for a couple of months before I got tired of it. It does pull water without priming, that part is true. Drop the hose in and squeeze the trigger and it starts pulling after a second or two.

Where it gets annoying is the bucket itself. You can’t just leave it sitting there and walk around the car. Once the water level drops the hose starts sucking air and you’re standing there holding the bucket at an angle like an idiot trying to get the last bit out. I ended up filling it way too many times for one wash. So yeah it pulls from a bucket, no priming needed, but it’s not the hassle free setup the listing makes it sound like. If your parking spot has no tap you’ll be hauling buckets back and forth more than you’d think.

Self suction is the main reason I even bothered with this thing, and it does work, but not the way most folks probably picture. I drag mine out to wash my bike at the trailhead where there’s zero plumbing, so I fill a big jug from home and drop the hose in. It’ll pull water on its own, no priming or anything fancy, but the jug has to sit flat and the hose can’t have any loops going uphill or it just fights itself. I’ve been doing this every couple weekends since spring and it’s been consistent. Where I’d push back on some of the hype is that you’re not getting the same stream as when it’s hooked to a spigot, so if you’re picturing full pressure off a bucket you’ll be let down. For rinsing mud and dust off stuff though, totally fine. Bucket sitting on the ground next to the car works, that’s basically the whole point of the feature.

Mine doesn’t suck from a bucket at all unless the bucket is basically level with the unit. I tried it hanging off the side like they show and it just sat there dry. So no, it’s not some magic straw that pulls water up from anywhere.

It does pull from a bucket, that part isn’t fake. But mine only really does it when the bucket sits higher than the unit, otherwise it just sputters and gives up. So yeah it sucks, just not from the ground like you’d hope.

Mine pulls from a bucket fine but I wouldn’t call it self suction in the way people expect. You still have to keep the hose end fully under water the whole time or it gulps air and loses it.

If I were in your spot I’d just fill the bucket and give it a go before buying any extra stuff. Mine did pull water on its own from a bucket the first time I tried it, no priming. It’s not super strong but it got the job done for rinsing off my bike.

I’ve had mine about two months and my experience is kind of the opposite of what a few people here are saying. Mine would not pull from a bucket at all in the beginning, just made noise and nothing came up. Turned out the little filter on the end of the hose was the problem, it was clogged with junk from the first time I used it in a river. Cleaned that off and now it sips from a bucket sitting on the ground next to the washer with no priming. It’s slow to get going, takes a few seconds before water actually reaches the nozzle, but once it’s moving it keeps going fine. So if yours isn’t pulling, check that filter before you assume the suction is fake. That was the whole issue on mine.

Mine wouldn’t pull from a bucket at all the first couple times I tried, just made noise and nothing came up. Then I realized the filter end was sitting flat against the bottom and once I tilted it a bit it started pulling fine. Still needs the hose fully submerged though.

Mine pulls water from a bucket without any priming, and I’ve never once had to mess with getting it started. I just drop the hose in, turn it on, and it starts sucking within a few seconds. I’ve used it that way for probably four or five washes now, filling up a big bucket on the ground next to my car, and it’s never failed to pick up the water on its own. So I don’t think the self suction thing is a gimmick at all.

I will say the bucket does need a decent amount of water in it though. The first time I tried with just a little splash at the bottom, it pulled for a moment and then started coughing air, which makes sense because there’s nothing left to grab. But with a normal full bucket it’s totally fine and keeps going until the water gets low. I usually top it up once in the middle of washing since I’m not trying to run it completely dry.

I don’t know why some people are saying it only works if the bucket is raised up. Mine sits flat on the pavement and it still lifts the water just fine, so that hasn’t been my experience at all. Maybe it depends on how long the hose is or how it’s coiled, I really couldn’t tell you. But for parking without a tap nearby, a bucket on the ground has worked perfectly for me, no priming, no fuss. I’d skip it for bucket use if I were you. Mine only worked when I had the bucket propped up on a chair, and even then it was weak. For a parking spot setup I’d just bring a couple of full jugs and forget the suction thing.

Mine sucked water straight out of a bucket the first time, no priming needed. I’ve used it that way maybe half a dozen times since and it always catches on its own. So yeah, the self suction thing is real in my experience.

Alright, plenty to chew on. I’ll just grab the hose, drop it in a bucket, and see what happens before I spend money on anything else. If it doesn’t pull, I’ll deal with it then.
