I’m thinking about getting a Flixy for a spare TV, but I’m wondering about the power setup. Since it’s USB-powered, do people just leave it plugged into the TV’s USB port permanently, or is that bad for the stick or the TV? I’d rather not have to unplug it every time I turn the TV off, but I don’t want to wear it out either.

I leave mine plugged into the TV’s USB port all the time. Turns off when the TV does, no issues so far.

I’d say it’s fine to leave it plugged in, that’s what I do. The USB port on the TV only gives power when the TV is on anyway, so it’s not like it’s running 24/7. Saves faffing around with cables every time you want to watch something.

I’d just leave it plugged in. These sticks are designed to be powered most of the time, so I really wouldn’t worry about wearing it out. If anything, the TV’s USB port is more likely to give out before the stick does.

I figure if you’re really worried about it, just plug it into a wall adapter instead of the TV USB port. That way it’s always on, but the TV doesn’t have to feed it power. But honestly, I wouldn’t stress it either way.

I doubt keeping it plugged in is going to wear anything out. These things are basically cheap little computers, they’re meant to be powered up most of the time. If your TV’s USB port stays live after you turn it off, it’s still just sipping a tiny bit of power, not enough to matter.
