Just got the CarbonOne Safe and I’m wondering if it’s fine to unplug it when I’m not home or if that messes with the self-test or battery backup. I don’t want to leave it running all the time if it’s not necessary.

I think it’s fine to unplug it when you’re out, but I was too lazy to mess with it so mine stays plugged in all the time. Haven’t had any issues with it so far.

I think unplugging it kills the point of having a backup battery for when you’re actually gone and the power goes out. Mine just sits in the wall and I forget about it, does its thing. Not really something I think about saving electricity on.

I’d just leave it plugged in. The battery backup is for when the power goes out, not for when you decide to unplug it yourself. If you unplug it you’re basically turning it into a dumb brick that does nothing.

I’d probably just leave it plugged in honestly. The battery backup is there for outages, not for everyday use, so unplugging it kind of defeats the purpose of having continuous monitoring. I get not wanting to waste power, but it’s pretty low draw and the self-test runs automatically when it’s plugged in.

I figured it’s made to be left plugged in, so I just leave mine in. The self-test thing probably needs power to run properly anyway.

I think it’s fine to leave it plugged in. The self-test and battery backup are probably meant to run while it’s on, so unplugging might mess with that. I just leave mine in and don’t worry about it.

I’d just leave it plugged in. It’s a gas detector, not a phone charger. Unplugging it kind of defeats the purpose of having a backup battery and self-test that runs automatically. Not a big deal if you unplug it now and then, but I wouldn’t make a habit of it.

I’ve had mine plugged in since day one and never really thought about unplugging it. The self-test runs automatically, so I’d guess it’ll just throw a warning if you pull the plug too often. Leaving it in keeps the backup battery charged, which is the only reason I don’t mess with it. Works fine for me.

I just leave mine plugged in all the time. Unplugging it kind of seems like you are just turning off the main reason to have it.

I just leave mine plugged in and don’t really think about it. If the battery backup is there for outages, it makes sense to keep it powered normally. Unplugging it feels like you’d just get false alarms or something when it tries to do its self-check.

From what I’ve seen, leaving it plugged in just makes more sense for the self-test to do its thing. I’d rather not have to remember to plug it back in every time I get home.
