I’ve been reading about the Qinux AquaSylk and I’m curious about one thing. Where I live the water has a pretty strong chlorine smell, and I’m wondering if this filter actually takes that away or if it just makes it less noticeable. Has anyone with similar water tried it? I’m not expecting a miracle, but I’d like to know if the smell goes away enough to make a difference.

I’d say it reduces it more than removes it. In my case the smell dropped a lot once the water had been running for a minute or two. First few seconds still have that chlorine edge, but after that it’s barely noticeable. Good enough that I stopped caring about it.

I think it depends on what you mean by “removed.” If you’re expecting to step into the shower and smell absolutely nothing, you might be disappointed. But if you’re hoping the smell won’t hit you in the face as soon as the water starts, that’s probably closer to what this thing does.

The water where I live is heavily chlorinated too, especially in the summer months. Before I switched, I could smell it before I even got in the shower. With the AquaSylk, that initial strong whiff is mostly gone after the water runs for twenty or thirty seconds. The first blast can still have a faint hint of it, but it fades quickly. I wouldn’t say the water smells completely clean like spring water, but it’s no longer something I actively notice while I’m washing.

One thing I found is that the temperature matters. When I take a hotter shower, I notice a bit more of a smell than when I keep it lukewarm. I guess heat just brings it out more, regardless of the filter.

If your main issue is the smell bothering you while you’re in there, I’d say this makes a real difference. If you’re someone who’s super sensitive to any kind of chlorine scent, you may still catch a trace now and then. It’s definitely not a miracle fix, but it took my water from “I can’t stand this” to “I don’t think about it anymore.” For what it costs, that was enough for me.

I think it comes down to how strong your water is to begin with. Mine was pretty bad, and after a couple of weeks with this I could actually smell the difference when I stepped in. Not completely gone, but it stopped being the first thing I noticed. For me, that was enough to make the shower more pleasant.

Honestly I’d skip it if the chlorine smell is your main problem. A shower filter only does so much with what’s already coming through your pipes. I had similar water and mine barely touched the smell, it just made it slightly less sharp. You’d probably get more out of fixing the water at the source or just airing out the bathroom after.

I noticed the smell drops pretty fast once the water hits you, especially if you let it run for a few seconds before stepping in. For me it made the difference between the bathroom smelling like a pool and just a faint hint that I barely notice anymore. It won’t make the water taste or drink like spring water, but for showering purposes it does the job.

I think it does make a noticeable difference, but the word “remove” is tricky. The smell was strong enough in my shower that I could smell it from outside the bathroom, and now I only really notice it if I put my face right under the water and take a deep breath. That’s good enough for me.

Chlorine smell is one of those things that depends on how fresh it is in your water. If your municipality hits it hard right before it gets to you, no shower filter is going to fully kill that. I swapped mine out for this and the smell was still there, just not as sharp. I think expecting it to vanish is setting yourself up for disappointment.

For me it cut it down enough that I stopped noticing it mid-shower, but the first blast of water still had that pool-water edge when I first turned it on. I’d say it’s more of a strong reduction than a full removal. If your water is really heavy on the chlorine, you’ll probably still catch whiffs of it, just not the whole time.

I keep seeing people say it just tones the smell down, but that wasn’t my takeaway at all. The chlorine scent in my water was pretty obvious when I first turned the shower on, and after a few weeks with this thing it was basically gone. I think a lot depends on how much you let the water run before you get in.

I’d say it takes the edge off pretty well, but your water’s freshness matters. In my area the smell is seasonal, and during the worst weeks I can still catch a faint whiff in the first few seconds. After that it’s basically gone for the rest of the shower.

Honestly I was expecting it to just soften the smell a little bit but for my water it actually got rid of it almost completely after the first minute of running. That first burst still has a hint of pool water but once the water warms up I don’t smell it at all anymore.
