Hey, quick question before I pick one up. My parents have an older TV, it has HDMI but it’s pretty old. Would Flixy still work fine with that kind of setup? Just wondering if anyone’s tried it on an older TV.

Yep, it should work just fine. As long as the TV has an HDMI port, even if it’s quite old, Flixy should work perfectly. I’ve seen people use it on older TVs without any issues at all.

Honestly, I’d be more worried about the Wi-Fi reaching the TV than the HDMI port itself. As long as the TV has one, it should be fine. I almost got one for my folks but they still use a DVD player more than anything, so I passed.

I’d guess it depends more on the Wi-Fi signal than the HDMI port itself, honestly. Old ports usually still pass video fine, it’s the streaming that can get choppy if the connection’s weak. Could be worth trying if you’re not expecting 4K or anything.

Hard to say for sure without knowing the exact TV model, but I think it’s probably fine. The HDMI standard has been backwards compatible for ages, so a port from ten years ago should still pass video without a hitch. Might be more of a question of whether the TV can handle the resolution Flixy tries to output, but usually that negotiates itself.

I’d think it’s probably fine. We plugged one into an older TV at a relative’s house and it worked without any issues. The HDMI port was definitely from like 10 years ago or something.

Old HDMI ports usually just work, it’s not like the signal changes that much over the years. I’ve used mine on a TV from around 2010 without any issues. My only small thing is I prefer the power plug to be close by, those long USB cables can get annoying if the TV’s old layout is weird.

I’d say it’s probably fine unless the TV is ancient. We’ve got one hooked up to an old 720p set and it works well enough for streaming.

It’ll probably work. The HDMI port just needs to be functional, not fancy. If the TV turns on and has an HDMI input, Flixy should be fine.

I think it should be fine. I’ve used mine in a hotel once with an older TV and it worked after a bit of fiddling with the input settings. Not totally sure about really old ports though, maybe check if the TV supports HDCP or something like that.

I think as long as the HDMI port is actually working it should be fine. The only thing I’d wonder about is maybe not getting the full picture quality if it’s an older standard, but for regular streaming it would probably do the job.

I’d just go for it honestly. Old HDMI ports are pretty basic, they either work or they don’t, so Flixy should be fine. Might not look amazing on a really old screen but it’ll do the job.

I’d be more worried about the Wi-Fi on an older TV honestly. If your parents’ place has spotty internet or the router is far from the TV, that’s gonna be the real bottleneck, not the HDMI port itself.

I think it should be okay. My folks have a pretty old TV and Flixy worked right out of the box for them. The picture wasn’t super sharp but it did the job for casual watching.

I’d be a little surprised if the HDMI itself was the problem—it’s usually more about whether the TV can handle whatever resolution Flixy tries to push. I’d just check the settings when you plug it in, you might need to drop the output down a notch or two.

I’d just double check that the port actually outputs to the screen before buying. My in-laws have an old HDMI port that works fine for a DVD player but for some reason their TV just won’t recognize newer streaming sticks at all. Not saying that’ll happen here, but old TVs can be picky in weird ways.
