I’ve had my Flixy for a few weeks now and it’s been fine for streaming, but I haven’t really tried the screen mirroring much. Just wondering if anyone else uses that feature a lot and if it works smoothly or if it’s kinda laggy. I mostly want to cast stuff from my phone when I travel.

I actually use the mirroring more than the streaming apps when I’m on the road. It worked fine from my phone to a hotel TV, no real lag that I noticed for basic video and photos. The only thing is it seems to depend a lot on whatever Wi-Fi you’re connected to. It handled it better than I expected for the price.

Mirroring is probably the main thing I’d use it for, and honestly it feels like the weakest part of the stick. Not terrible, but I wouldn’t call it smooth either. Works fine when nothing else is running, but it’s not something I’d rely on for long stretches.

I have a feeling the mirroring gets pretty dependent on whatever phone you are using. Some devices cast much smoother than others. I would try it at home on your own TV first before relying on it at a hotel, just so you know what to expect.

Mirroring on mine has been decent enough for a quick YouTube or map on the TV, but the quality drops fast if the Wi-Fi is weak. Works fine in a pinch, but I wouldn’t rely on it for anything important.

I’m in the opposite boat. I bought mine mainly for mirroring and the streaming apps are the backup. I’ve used it to throw stuff from my tablet up on the TV a bunch of times, mostly when I’m at my parents’ place because their TV doesn’t have any smart features. Never had a serious problem with it. There was one time where the picture froze for a second and then caught up, but that was on a hotel network that was barely working anyway.

The one thing I notice is people blame the stick when the real issue is usually the phone or the Wi-Fi. I’ve mirrored from two different phones and my tablet, and the older phone does stutter more. The tablet is smooth almost every time. So if you’re going to rely on it for travel, the quality is going to depend on what you’re casting from and the internet where you’re staying, not just the Flixy itself.

I’d say try it out on your home network with the phone you plan to take. If that works fine, it’ll probably work fine on the road. If it’s laggy at home with a solid connection, then you might have a problem. But I’ve used it enough to say the mirroring isn’t the weak point people make it out to be.

It works fine for basic stuff, but I would not call it a strong feature. I use it when I need to show something on a bigger screen and it gets the job done, but the quality is nothing special if you are used to better devices.

I’m probably in the minority here but I’ve actually had a pretty solid experience with the mirroring. I bought mine mostly for travel and I use it to throw up stuff from my laptop more than my phone. Did a presentation for work in a hotel room once and it held up fine, no weird drops or anything. That said, I keep my expectations low because it’s not like I’m trying to game or watch super high bitrate stuff through it. For basic video and photos it does the job.

I do think the phone matters a lot though. My old Android was choppy as hell, but my newer one connects way faster and stays stable. So if you’ve got a decent phone you’re probably fine. I wouldn’t stress too much about it, just test it once at home before you rely on it somewhere else.

I’ve actually used mine quite a bit for mirroring since I got it. I was in the same boat as you, mostly streaming at first, but then I went on a trip and forgot my laptop. I ended up using the mirroring to throw a bunch of photos and a few videos from my phone onto the hotel TV. It worked way better than I expected. There was a tiny bit of delay when I first connected it, but once it locked in it was fine. I wasn’t trying to game or anything, just casual stuff, and it held up for the whole night.

I think a lot of it depends on what you’re casting. Simple stuff like photos and YouTube vids have been smooth for me. I did try mirroring a live sports stream once and that got a little choppy, but my Wi-Fi in that room was pretty weak, so I blame that more than the stick. I’ve also noticed that my phone seems to connect faster than my tablet does. Not sure why, but it’s consistent.

For travel specifically, I’ve been happy with it. It’s small enough that I just toss it in my bag and I don’t have to worry about carrying extra cables or anything. If your main use is just getting your phone’s screen onto a bigger TV now and then, I’d say it does the job. I wouldn’t expect it to replace a proper casting setup for serious use, but for casual stuff it’s been solid for me.

I use the mirroring more than the streaming apps honestly. It has been fine for showing photos and stuff from my phone on the hotel TV when I’m away, which is mainly what I wanted it for. Just make sure your phone is charged because it does drain it a bit while casting.

Mine lags a bit if the wifi drops, but it gets the job done for quick casting.

Mirroring is one of those things I only pull out when I actually need it, and in my case it’s been okay. Not amazing, but okay. I’ve casted a few videos from my phone while on a trip and it held up fine as long as I wasn’t moving around too much. If you’re just parking it somewhere and watching, you’ll probably be fine with it.
