Been using my Coolizi Coolzy for a few days now, mostly cooling so far. Just tried the heating mode for the first time and noticed a bit of a weird smell, like dusty air. Is that normal for a new unit, or does it go away after a bit?

First time I flipped mine to heat it did the same thing. Smelled like the inside of an old vacuum bag for a bit. I figured it was just dust that settled on the heating element while it sat in storage or whatever.

It went away after the second or third use for me. Hasn’t come back since. If it’s a brand new unit, there’s also that “new appliance” smell that can linger for a bit. I wouldn’t worry about it unless it starts smelling like burning plastic or something actually acrid. That would be a different story.

As long as it clears up after a few cycles, I’d just run it and not think about it. Mine’s been fine for a couple months now.

Dusty smell is pretty common on a lot of these combo units the first time you hit the heat. I think it’s just whatever settled on the heating element during shipping or while it was sitting in cooling mode. Mine did that too, but it faded after a few uses.

I wouldn’t worry about it unless it gets worse or starts smelling like burning plastic. That would be a different story. The dusty thing is usually just the initial burn-off. Give it another couple of cycles and see if it clears up. If it lingers after a week, maybe check the filter or give the vents a quick wipe, but I’d bet it goes away on its own.

It’s probably just the heating element burning off dust that settled inside. Mine did that the first couple times too and then it stopped. Give it another few runs before worrying about it.

That burnt dusty smell on first heat is pretty standard for these portable units. Mine did the exact same thing and I remember wondering if something was off. It’s just the heating element warming up for the first time, so any dust or whatever that settled in there gets cooked off.

I wouldn’t worry about it unless it lingers after several more uses or starts smelling like burning plastic. Give it another couple of sessions and it should fade out. Took mine maybe three or four times before it completely went away, and now it just smells like warm air when I switch it over. The heating itself works fine, so I just assumed it was part of the break-in.

These units are pretty simple, not much to go wrong with them. The heating mode works fine for me, gets the room warm enough without being obnoxiously loud. Give it a few more cycles and see if it clears up. If it doesn’t, then maybe reach out to support, but I’d bet it’s just the initial burn-off and you’ll forget about it by next week.

I kind of expected that smell honestly. Most things with a heating element do that when they first get used, like a brand new space heater. It never really bothered me though, I just figured it was part of the deal. I wouldn’t worry about it unless it sticks around for a week or so.

I think that smell is just part of how these things behave when you switch modes. I tried mine on heat for the first time the other day and it had a similar thing going on, but it didn’t last long. I’m not totally sure if it’s fully gone or if I just got used to it, but it hasn’t bothered me since.

I just took mine out of storage and used the heat setting for the first time this season, and it did the exact same thing. Smelled like a dusty closet for a bit. I figured it was just the air moving through after sitting around, and it faded once it ran for a while.

That smell is pretty common on units that do both heating and cooling, especially when they are new. The heating element sits there unused while you are running the cooling side, and dust just collects on it. First time you actually fire up the heat, that dust burns off. It smells like a dusty, slightly warm air. Usually clears up after a few uses.

I would not worry about it unless it keeps going for a week or if it smells like burning plastic. That would be a different thing. But a quick dusty smell on a brand new unit is not anything I would send back over.

Yeah, that dusty smell is pretty much what you get on these dual mode units. The heat exchanger or whatever sits there doing nothing for months while you run cooling, so dust collects on it. First time the heating kicks in, it burns off. Same thing happens with space heaters that’ve been in storage.

Mine did that too. Noticed it more the first couple of times I switched over. After maybe the third or fourth use it was barely there. If it sticks around after a week of regular heating use, then maybe I’d start wondering. But right now I wouldn’t stress over it.

Probably worth just running it on heat for a bit with a window cracked if it bothers you. Let it burn through whatever’s on there. I didn’t think much of it at the time, just figured it was normal for something that switches between hot and cold.

I wouldn’t worry about it too much. Mine did the same thing the first handful of times I used the heat, and it just went away on its own. New elements always seem to have that little burnt dust phase.
