Hey, so I’m thinking about getting a ClairLite but I’m a bit confused about the safety stuff. I know you’re not supposed to be in the same room when it’s on, but is it okay to run it from the next room with the door closed? Like, the remote works through walls, right? I just want to make sure I can start it and then leave the room without worrying about the UV leaking out or something. Anyone know how this works?

I have one of these and honestly the remote through walls thing works way better than I expected. I just shut the door, hit the button from the hallway, and walk off. Never noticed any issues with light bleeding under the door or anything. The auto shutoff gives me peace of mind too.

It’s really not a big deal. I run mine from the hallway all the time with the door shut and never had any issues. The remote still works fine and by the time I walk back to the room it’s already done its thing. I think you’re overthinking it a bit.

The remote does work through walls, I think that’s kind of the whole point so you don’t have to be in there. I don’t think UV is like smoke that seeps under doors, as long as the door is shut it’s probably fine. I usually just start mine and go make tea or something. Seems like a lot of worry for something that just turns itself off anyway.

The remote is definitely the main reason I went with this over other options. I just set the timer from the hallway and close the door behind me, no big deal. It’s basically like running a dishwasher or something, you just leave it alone until it finishes.

The remote working from another room is pretty much the whole reason these things exist, so I wouldn’t stress about it. If the UV could get through walls, it would kind of defeat the purpose of having a wireless remote in the first place. You’re fine to just close the door and hit the button from wherever.

The whole point of the remote is so you don’t have to stand there while it runs, so you’re overthinking the mechanics of it. UV-C doesn’t go through drywall. If it did, everyone’s skin would be fried every time a neighbor ran one of these things. It’s line of sight, basically. The door being closed is enough.

My only thing is, make sure the room is actually empty before you hit the button. It’s easy to forget the cat snuck in there or something. I usually do a quick glance under the bed and in the closet before I shut the door. It takes two seconds and saves you a trip to the vet. Once you get that routine down, it’s pretty much set it and forget it. I wouldn’t stress about the leakage part. That’s not how this works.

It’s not like the UV light is beaming through the drywall. That would kind of defeat the whole purpose of the product. I get why you’re asking though, because the idea of something that kills germs with light sounds more intense than it actually is in practice.

I’ve run mine from the hallway a bunch of times. The remote has a decent range, so I just close the door, start the timer, and go make coffee or whatever. I can’t say I’ve ever felt anything weird or noticed any kind of glow seeping under the door. If the light was that powerful, I doubt they’d sell it for home use at all.

The main thing is just remembering it’s on. The auto shutoff helps, but I’ve definitely walked back in the room faster than I should have once or twice because I forgot I even started it. That’s more of a me problem than a product issue though.

I wouldn’t overthink it. The remote exists for exactly this reason. If it couldn’t be used from another room, nobody would buy it. Just shut the door and start it.

I think you’re fine as long as the door is shut. UV-C doesn’t really bounce off walls or sneak through gaps like that, it’s more about direct exposure. I usually just set the timer and walk out, then come back when it clicks off. Probably worth giving it an extra minute or two before you open the door again though, just to be safe.

I’d probably just close the door and run it. You’re not gonna get any kind of leak through a wall, and the remote is there so you don’t have to hover around. I’d trust the timer more than anything else. It’s not like it’s a radiation machine.

Honestly this is one of those things where people overthink the safety angle. The remote exists for a reason, and if UV was somehow leaking through walls, there’d be way bigger problems than just this lamp. Close the door, hit the button, move on with your day.

I mean, the remote thing kind of answers your own question, doesn’t it? They wouldn’t give you that if you were supposed to hover by the door. I’d say shut the door and don’t worry about it too much. I feel like if it was dangerous through walls, there’d be a lot more warnings about it.

That settles it then, I’ll just shut the door and use the remote from the hallway. I figured I was overthinking it, but I’d rather feel a little silly asking than have that nagging worry in the back of my head every time I use it. Looking forward to seeing if it makes a difference in the bathroom.
