Looking at picking up a ClairLite but my living room is kind of a mess with furniture and stuff everywhere. If the UV can’t hit half the surfaces because they’re blocked, does it even do anything useful, or am I just wasting money on a lamp that only sanitizes the open floor space?

I’d probably just run it anyway. Even if some spots are blocked, the UV that does hit surfaces is still doing something. Better than nothing, and you can always move it around.

I think you’re overthinking it. The lamp still covers whatever it can reach, and that’s better than doing nothing. Half a room cleaned is still half a room.

I’d still go for it. Even with furniture in the way, the UV is bouncing around a bit and hitting whatever it can reach, so it’s not like it does nothing. You’re probably not going to notice the difference between a perfect empty room and a mildly cluttered one anyway unless you’re really testing it.

I just run mine in the bedroom when I know I’m going to be out for a while, and honestly it feels like it makes the air a bit less stale even if the furniture blocks some stuff 🤷‍♀️

I’ve got a pretty cluttered living room too and I still notice less dust and odors after running mine, even with stuff in the way. Not totally sure it’s hitting every corner, but seems to help the air enough for me.

I wouldn’t overthink the clutter too much. Even if it’s not hitting every hidden corner, the air still gets cycled through it, so you’re still getting some sanitizing benefit just from that.

Honestly, if the air still gets cycled through it and some surfaces are getting hit, that’s still doing more than I’m doing by just ignoring the clutter. I’d probably grab one anyway and just move it around to different spots over a few days if you’re really worried about it.

I feel like even if you’ve got furniture blocking some spots, the air still gets cleaned as it cycles through the lamp, so it’s not like you’re getting zero benefit. I think people get caught up on the surface coverage thing and forget the lamp is still running and doing something the whole time it’s on. Clutter might cut down the direct UV hits a bit, but it’s not like the lamp just stops working.

I dunno, I got one and honestly the clutter kind of defeated the purpose for me. Felt like I was just sanitizing the same three feet of floor.

I kind of see it the other way. If the room is that cluttered, I feel like you’re just paying extra to zap a few inches of floor. Not convinced that’s worth it.

I think it probably still helps with the air quality even if the direct light is blocked. I mostly notice it killing weird smells in my place more than worrying about every surface. But yeah, if you’re banking on it hitting behind the couch it’s probably not doing much back there.

I mean, if the clutter is really bad you’re probably not getting much direct UV on the surfaces behind the couch or whatever, but the air still gets cycled through. I’ve got a pretty full room myself and it still cuts down on musty smells and static air. So it’s not useless, just maybe not hitting every single corner.

My place is cluttered too but I still run the ClairLite a few times a week. The air definitely smells less stale after.
