I got the Blink Outdoor set up recently and it works fine for basic stuff. But I’m wondering about those two configurable privacy zones. Anyone actually tested how accurate the blocking is? I got a tree branch that keeps triggering it and I’d like to just ignore that area without missing the driveway.

I haven’t mess with the zones much, but I did block out a corner of my yard and it seems to hold up okay. Not perfect, but good enough to stop most false triggers.

I haven’t bothered testing the zones that hard, but my experience is they’re decent enough for bigger stuff like blocking a neighbors roof. For a tree branch though, good luck. That motion detection is pretty jumpy with small moving things like leaves.

The two zones thing feels more like a rough suggestion than a hard block. I’d keep the camera pointed where you want it and just tweak the sensitivity down a little instead of relying on the zones to be perfect.

I blocked out a section of my backyard where my neighbor’s flood light was setting it off constantly and it’s worked perfectly since. Haven’t had a single false alert from that spot. For a tree branch I’d say give it a shot, the zones seem to do what they say.

Honestly, I haven’t had any issues with mine. I set it up to block out a small patch where the sun glare was hitting and it’s been spot on since.

I haven’t really tested the zones super carefully, but I blocked out a spot where my neighbor’s security light was hitting and it hasn’t triggered since. Seems to handle that kind of thing well enough.

I’d say it depends on what you’re trying to block out. I’ve found the zones work well enough for larger areas but get a bit fuzzy if you’re trying to be really precise. That tree branch might still sneak through depending on how much it moves around.

I think people might be overthinking the precision a bit. For something like a tree branch moving around, the zones just aren’t that fine tuned in my experience. I’d probably try adjusting the camera angle slightly instead of relying on the zones to do all the heavy lifting.

I’d say they’re pretty precise for a branch honestly. I blocked out a small section where my mailbox kept setting it off and it hasn’t triggered since.

I think people make it sound more complicated than it is. I just drew a box over the corner of my yard where a bush was triggering it and it stopped, driveway still works fine. You might have to play with the size a little but it’s not that fussy.

I just drew a box over a tricky spot where my neighbor’s flag was setting it off and it stopped completely. Works fine for me, doesn’t seem to miss anything else in the driveway.

I keep meaning to mess around more with those zones but I haven’t really tested it that carefully. I just kind of drew a rough shape over a spot where a cat was always wandering through and it seems like it stopped, but I’m not totally sure if I got the edges right. Works fine for what I need though.

I’ve only had mine a couple weeks but the privacy zones seem fine for bigger stuff. I wouldn’t count on them for something thin like a branch moving around though.

I just set mine to block out a streetlamp reflection and it worked fine, so the zones are decent enough for bigger things. For a thin branch moving around though, I could see it being tricky since the box shape might not match perfectly. Might be worth trying a slightly bigger zone around the branch to see if it still catches the driveway.

I skimmed a couple replies and it sounds like people are having decent luck with the privacy zones for blocking out specific spots. I haven’t really pushed mine to the limit with something thin like a branch, but for blocking a big reflection off a window it worked no problem. Seems like it’s worth trying at least.

Alright, I read through a few of these. Seems like the zones handle bigger stuff fine but a thin branch is a crapshoot. That’s pretty much what I figured. I’ll probably just adjust the camera angle or deal with the false alerts.
