I’m looking at the AlarmTag as something to keep on my keys for walking home at night, and the whole ‘no charging, replaceable battery’ thing sounds great in theory. But I keep wondering how often you’d actually need to swap the battery if you just leave it on your keychain and never use it. Anyone have a rough idea how long the battery holds up with just normal everyday carry?

I wouldn’t overthink it. Even if the battery lasts a couple years just sitting there, that’s still better than remembering to charge something.

I don’t really buy the multi-year claims. I’ve had mine about 10 months and it’s still going, but I’m not holding my breath.

I feel like even if it’s not the full multi-year thing, it’s still way less annoying than having another gadget to plug in every few days. I’ve had mine for a while now and haven’t thought about the battery once, which is basically the whole point for me.

Battery life claims are always optimistic. I’d just buy it and swap the battery when it dies, not worth obsessing over.

I just picked one up a few weeks ago, so I can’t really say much about long term battery life yet. It’s still working fine just sitting on my keys, and I haven’t had to think about it at all.

I’ve had mine for about a year on my keychain and it’s still working fine. I don’t really test it often, but I figure if it dies, I’ll just toss a new battery in. For something I barely think about, it’s good enough.

Honestly I’ve had mine for maybe 8 months now and it’s still going strong, but I don’t really think about it much. I just keep it on my keys and figure if the battery dies I’ll swap it out, no big deal.

I’d guess you’re fine for a couple years easy. The battery isn’t doing anything unless you pull the pin so it’s basically just sitting there. I’d grab one and not worry about it.

I mean, if you’re not pulling the pin, it’s basically just sitting there doing nothing, so I’d guess the battery lasts ages. Probably longer than you’d actually keep the thing on your keys before losing it or getting bored.

I’m not sure I buy the whole “years and years” thing people are saying. I’ve had mine for maybe a year and a half and I already had to swap the battery a couple months ago. It’s not a big deal since it’s easy to change, but I wouldn’t plan on it lasting forever just sitting there.

I keep seeing people say years, but I wonder if that’s assuming you never accidentally set it off in your bag. One accidental pull and you’re burning through battery faster than you’d think.
