MemberBeen using the Hewelth ReliefChain for a bit now and the pulse mode works fine on lower settings. But when I crank it up higher it starts to feel kind of prickly or like my muscles are twitching on their own. Is that normal or am I just not used to it? I don’t want to keep using it if I’m doing something wrong.

Daniele RossiMemberI get what you mean about the prickly feeling. I noticed the same thing when I first turned mine up past the middle levels. It kind of settled down after a few sessions once I got used to it, but I also found that moving it slightly on my shoulders helps. If it feels too intense, there’s no shame in keeping it a bit lower.

MemberI think the prickly feeling is just the pulses hitting harder, mine does the same thing above level 4.

MemberI’m still figuring out if I even like pulse mode enough to turn it up that high. I’ve only gone past the middle once and it definitely felt strange, almost like little electric pinches. Maybe I just prefer it lower or with the heat on at the same time. It seems like one of those things you either get used to or decide isn’t for you.

MemberThat twitchy feeling is the pulses actually hitting the muscle instead of just buzzing the skin. Lower settings barely do anything for me, they just feel like a light tickle. Once I get it up there, yeah, it gets that sharp, involuntary spasm thing going. That part is pretty standard for this type of unit honestly.
I do think the prickly part is the part I’d watch. The twitching is one thing, but if it feels like needles or like it’s biting your skin, the pads might not be seated flat enough against your neck. If the contact is uneven, it concentrates the current into one spot and that feels nasty.
Try making sure the gel pads are damp enough and the wrap is snug, not loose. I noticed mine gets prickly when it shifts around. If it still feels like pins after adjusting the fit, that’s when I’d back it down a level because that sensation isn’t going to go away with more use.

MemberThat twitchy feeling is a sign it’s working, not a problem.

Paul847ParticipantThat twitchy feeling is pretty much what it’s supposed to do once you turn it up. The prickly part might just be your skin getting used to it. I’d say keep it where it feels strong but not uncomfortable and work up from there.

RiversMemberTwitchy yes, prickly no. If it’s actually stinging, I’d back it down a level.

MemberThe prickly feeling is the part that would bother me. Twitching makes sense since it’s stimulating the muscles, but a sharp or stinging sensation usually means the intensity is too high for that spot. I’d try repositioning the pads first before dropping down a level, sometimes it’s just sitting over a bony area.

MemberThe prickly feeling is the part I’d pay attention to. Twitching means it’s hitting the muscle, but a sharp, stinging sensation usually means the intensity is too high for that spot. I’ve had mine for a few months and I keep it just below where it starts to feel sharp, that’s the sweet spot for me.

MemberI actually don’t get the prickly thing at all, personally. Mine just feels like a strong buzzing that gets my shoulders tensing up on their own, but there’s no sting to it. Maybe your skin is more sensitive in that spot or you have it positioned slightly off?

MemberThe prickly sensation could honestly just be the pulse hitting a spot where you carry more tension. I had that happen around my traps and it faded after a few sessions. The twitching is one thing, but if it feels sharp or stingy rather than just intense, I would back it down a level and work up more gradually.

MemberThat prickly feeling means you’ve hit the sweet spot honestly, mine does the same and it’s fine.

Owen21MemberThe twitching part is the whole point of pulse mode, so that tracks. It’s basically forcing the muscle to fire on its own, which feels weird until you get used to it. The prickly sensation is the part that would make me stop and think though.
I get the same thing if I move the pads around and they sit closer to bone or right on a tendon. The pulse seems to surface more there instead of going deep into the muscle. When it’s placed right over the meaty part of the trap, it feels more like a dull throb or a strong buzzing. When it shifts even a little, it gets that sharp, almost electric ant bite feeling.
For me that’s usually a positioning issue rather than an intensity issue. I’ve had sessions where I had to readjust the strap mid-use because it slid down an inch and suddenly the whole thing felt off. Once I got it seated properly again, the prickliness went away even at the same level.
If it feels like actual pinpricks or stinging, I would not keep pushing through it. That’s your skin and nerves telling you something is off. If it’s just a weird surface tingle alongside the muscle twitching, that’s probably the electrode contact being uneven.
Try shifting the whole unit around a bit before you drop the intensity. Sometimes it just needs to sit differently on your shoulders.

MemberThe prickly sensation usually calms down for me once my muscles get used to the level. I found that starting at a medium for a minute or two before bumping it up makes the transition way smoother and less jarring.

MemberThat prickly feeling usually settles down once you’ve used it a few times at that level.

MemberThat’s just what high intensity feels like, mine does the same thing and it’s never caused any issues.
