Thinking about a 55-inch smart TV for my cozy living room, a bit skeptical

I’ve been eyeing a 55-inch smart TV to replace the old set in my living room. I like cozy gadgets and movie nights with a cup of tea, so the size appeals to me. Still, I’m uneasy about smart features being slow or annoying and the whole data thing feels unnecessary. I mostly want something simple that looks nice above my console and doesn’t make evenings fiddly. Would it make sense to buy a non-smart 55-inch TV and just use a streaming stick if I need apps?

Got a non-smart 55 and use a streaming stick, the TV feels solid and not cheap-plasticky so it actually suits a cozy living room.

I think I’ll focus on a simple-looking 55 and not overthink the smart bits. Not totally sure yet but cozy movie nights with tea matter more than fancy menus, so that’s the plan for now.

Smart TVs do look nicer on the wall, but their built-in apps are often laggy. A cheap streaming stick usually feels snappier.

I think a plain 55-inch TV plus a streaming stick keeps things simple and tidy, and you can always unplug or swap the stick if it starts acting up. Maybe that’s unnecessary fuss, but it’s been my go-to when I want evenings to stay low-key.

Maybe get a smart 55-inch, seems fine to me, not a big deal.

why are you all going for a stick? feels easier to just get a smart TV these days. sticks made more sense back when TVs weren’t smart

Also, one small thought: check the TV’s interface so it isn’t cluttered with junk apps if that bugs you. A cheap streaming stick later can keep things simple for evenings, I think. Maybe pick a model with a slim bezel and an easy remote so it looks tidy above the console. Not totally sure, but those little details seem to matter.

Thanks for the thoughts. I’m leaning toward a plain 55 and will peek at the TV UI so it’s not full of junk, then add a streaming stick later if I want apps. Can’t wait for cosy movie nights.
