I usually plug my Glacier Breeze into a wall outlet, but I want to try it with a power bank when I’m on the patio. Does anyone know if a standard power bank keeps it running on low speed? I don’t need it all day, just a couple of hours.

A standard power bank should keep it running on low speed, but the runtime is going to depend way more on the power bank than on the Glacier Breeze itself. I looked into this a while back because I wanted something similar for camping, and the thing that kept coming up is that these little coolers don’t pull a ton of power, but they pull enough that a cheap 5,000 mAh bank drains faster than you’d expect. A bigger one, like 20,000 mAh, is usually the safer bet if you actually want a couple hours.

What changed my mind was realizing how much the low speed setting matters here. At low it’s pretty efficient, so a decent bank can get you a few hours, but the moment you bump it up to medium or high the drain jumps and the bank empties a lot quicker. So if your plan is strictly low speed on the patio, it’s doable. If you think you’ll want more airflow, you’ll probably be disappointed.

I ended up deciding the built-in battery was the more reliable option for outdoor use, and treating a power bank as a backup rather than the main plan. Not saying it won’t work, just that the numbers on paper look better than the real world sometimes. Worth checking what output your bank actually delivers too, since some of the older ones are slower than people assume.

The cable matters more than people think. I tried a short one I had lying around and the cooler kept cutting out, swapped to a thicker charging cable and it ran fine for the couple hours I needed.

I wouldn’t count on a random power bank doing much here. Mine barely kept it going for an hour on low before it cut out, so if I’m outside I just use the internal battery.

Mine handles a couple hours on low just fine.

I’d just grab a decent-sized power bank and use it on low while I’m out on the patio. Mine usually lasts through a lazy afternoon coffee and a bit of reading, which is all I really need.

I’ve used mine with a power bank a few times out on the deck and it ran fine on low, though I never really timed it. My only tip is to top off the water tank before you head out, since it’ll dry out before the power bank gives up.

I’d just use the power bank and not think much about it. Mine ran fine on low for about two hours when I had it outside, and it didn’t cut out at all. If it dies sooner, you’ll know pretty quickly.

Mine ran for about three hours on low off a mid-size bank last weekend before I packed up. Plenty for patio use if you ask me.

A practical detail that might matter more than the power bank itself: the Glacier Breeze pulls noticeably more when you’re running the pump alongside the fan, so if you’re filling the tank and using the cooling side of it, the bank drains faster than you’d expect just watching the fan spin. I ran mine off a bank out in the garage last month while I was sorting through some boxes, tank filled and all, and it got maybe a bit over an hour before things slowed down. Ran it dry on the cooling side and just used it as a plain fan afterward, and that stretched much further.

For a couple hours on the patio it’s probably fine either way, but if you want the actual cooling effect the whole time, I’d bring the bank along with the understanding that it’s not going to match what you get plugged into the wall. The cordless part is genuinely handy though, being able to just set it wherever without hunting for an outlet is the whole reason I bother with the bank in the first place.

One thing I’d add, keep an eye on the water level if you’re out there a while, because a dry tank on a warm afternoon basically turns it into a regular fan and you lose the point of dragging it outside.

I’d just plug it into whatever power bank is already in my bag and see how it does. The one thing I’d check first is that the bank actually lets it run while charging, since some of mine cut off on lower draw devices.

Small banks usually cut out on startup for me.

The bigger question is whether the bank can actually supply enough current on startup, since that’s where most of them stumble. I’d check the output rating before trusting it for a couple of hours.

Mine actually drained faster than I expected on a power bank. It ran, but I wouldn’t count on it lasting a full couple hours at low speed unless the bank is decent sized.

The bank itself matters less than what else is drawing from it. If you’re just running the fan on low, most decent banks will do a couple hours without drama. Start adding water and ice and the thing works harder, so expect less.
