Should AlarmTag be on my keys or bag for quick access?

I’ve been using the AlarmTag for a few weeks and I’m not sure if I’m carrying it in the best spot. Right now it’s on my keys, but sometimes I fumble when I’m in a hurry. Is it normal to keep it on a bag strap instead? Just wondering how others do it. It’s a small thing but I want to make sure I can grab it fast if needed.

Bag strap, keys are too jangly for me.

I’d keep it on your wrist or a belt loop instead. Keys are the worst spot because you have to fish through all that metal when you’re panicking. I’ve got mine clipped to a belt loop and it’s right there without digging. Bag strap works too but it swings around when you run.

Bag strap actually works better for me than keys did. I tried the key ring for a bit and kept grabbing the wrong thing, so I moved it to the strap of my everyday bag and it’s way easier to just pull without looking. Nothing wrong with keys if that’s your thing, but I wouldn’t call it the best spot.

Keys is still the right spot for me. If it’s on your bag, that thing is basically gone the second you set the bag down or someone grabs it. Keys stay attached to you, and you build the muscle memory fast enough.

I’ve had mine clipped to the outside of my jacket pocket for a few months now and that’s been the sweet spot for me. It’s not swinging around like on keys, and it’s not buried somewhere I have to dig for. I tried the key ring first and ran into the same thing you’re describing, too much fumbling when I actually needed it. With the pocket clip I can just reach down and grab it without looking. My sister keeps hers on her backpack strap and likes it fine, but she mostly uses it while walking to class so the bag is always on her. For me the jacket thing works because I wear one almost year round. I’d say just try a couple spots for a week each and see which one your hand naturally goes to.

I’ve had mine on my keys for like two months now and the fumbling part does get better once you build the muscle memory. What helped me was actually noticing the little pull pin thing has a slightly different feel than my other keychain stuff, so after a while my thumb just kind of knows where it is without looking. Kind of like how you can find your car key in your pocket without digging around.

That said I get why people move it to a bag. The one thing I’d say about keys is they’re always on you, whereas with a bag there’s that split second where you set it down somewhere and forget. I used to lose my old mini flashlight all the time that way back when I clipped stuff to a backpack.

Not saying bag is wrong, just that keys have that going for them. Give it another week or two and see if the fumble goes away before switching.

Bag strap makes more sense to me if you’re often carrying one anyway. I switched mine to the strap on my crossbody and it’s just easier to reach without looking down. Keys work fine for some people, but if you’re already fumbling, the bag is worth trying.

Bag strap never worked for me. Too much swinging and it ended up under my arm half the time. Keys are annoying but at least I know where it is.

Mine lives on a lanyard around my neck when I’m out walking the dog, which people never seem to mention as an option. It just hangs there and I can grab the pin without looking. Keys are fine but I always had a bag in the other hand anyway.

Keys versus bag is really just about which one you’d actually reach for when your brain goes blank, and for me that’s the bag strap. I keep mine clipped near the top of the strap on a small crossbody I wear most days, mostly because my keys live buried at the bottom of whatever pocket I shoved them into. The one thing I’ve noticed is that where on the bag matters a lot. High up on the strap near my shoulder works fine, but when I had it hanging lower it kept bouncing against my hip while walking and I’d sometimes knock it with my arm. So I moved it up and it stays put. Fumbling isn’t really about the spot, it’s about whether your hand already knows where to go without you thinking about it. If you reach for your bag before your keys anyway, that’s probably your answer.

Keys are actually the better spot for me. The fumbling goes away once it just lives in the same place every single time, bag straps move around too much and I end up patting myself down like an idiot. Keeping it on the keyring means I always know exactly where it is.

Bag strap actually worked out better for me personally. I keep mine clipped to the little loop on my tote where the strap meets the bag, and my hand basically lands there without thinking when I’m reaching for my phone or wallet anyway. With keys I kept getting tangled up in the whole bunch when I was in a rush, like the tag would be buried under my car keys and I’d be digging around. The bag spot just feels tidier for me since I’m already carrying it everywhere. The one thing I’d say is try it for a week or so and see if your hand naturally goes there. If it doesn’t, then keys were probably fine all along and the fumbling is just a phase. Mine’s been on the bag for a few months now and I stopped thinking about it entirely, which I guess is the goal.

Bag strap is fine if that’s what you actually grab without thinking. The whole point is muscle memory, not some perfect carry position. I’ve seen people fumble with both setups, so do whatever you practice.
