MemberJust got the DappSmile and I’m trying to figure out if that little LED light is actually useful or just there for looks. I can see my front teeth fine but when I try to check the back ones the light doesn’t really reach. Anyone else notice this or am I using it wrong?

MemberThe light on mine is actually the main reason I grab it over the old plastic pick I had. Not because it cleans better or anything, but I get a lot of coffee stain on the inside of my lower front teeth and that area is shadowy in the bathroom mirror. With the light I can actually see where I’m putting the tip instead of poking around blind. I still have to turn my head a bit to get the angle, so it’s not like it lights up the whole mouth. Back teeth are still a bit of a guess but I mostly use it on the front ones anyway. For what I use it for, it does the job fine.

MemberThe light helps me most when I’m checking along the gumline in the front, but yeah it fades out once you get past the premolars. I usually just angle the mirror from a few different spots and that gets me a better view than the light itself does. It’s a handy little extra, not really the main event.

emily_rParticipantThe light did nothing useful for me either. I tested it on my molars for about a week and still had to angle a phone flashlight in there to see anything back. I mostly ignore it now and just go by feel.

StanMemberMine lights up the back just fine if I tilt it a bit, so I don’t think it’s just for looks. I check mine in hotel bathrooms all the time and the light does more than I expected. Maybe try a different angle instead of going straight in.

RiversMemberLight works fine for spotting gunk on my front lowers.

MemberThe light isn’t just for looks on mine. I’ve had it a few months and I use it most on my lower back teeth where I can’t see anything without it, it reaches fine there. If yours only works up front, maybe check the angle you’re holding it at, because mine doesn’t fade out like that.

MemberThat little light is mostly a gimmick on mine. I dont even bother turning it on anymore, just use the mirror that came with it and whatever bathroom lighting I already have.

Oliver BrooksMemberThe light on mine is pretty weak too, I mostly just use it to double check the front area after I’m done. For the back teeth I still have to rely on the mirror and a regular bathroom light. It’s a nice extra but not something I’d buy the tool for.

MemberThe light only helps if you already know where you’re looking. I use it after flossing to spot bits I missed near the gumline, but it doesn’t magically reveal stuff in deep crevices.

MemberMine mostly lights up the tip and whatever is right in front of it. Back teeth are still a guessing game unless I angle my head like an idiot in the mirror. It’s not useless, but it’s not the game changer the listing makes it sound like either.

MemberLight doesn’t reach back teeth for me either.

EthanFreeMemberMine actually helps me more on the front than anywhere else, so I don’t think you’re using it wrong. I mostly check the gumline area with it and leave the back teeth to the mirror. The light is fine for what it is, just not some big game changer.

Emma__LMemberMine is honestly kind of pointless for the back teeth too. I mostly just use it to check the front and around the gumline, which is fine, but it’s not like it lights up your whole mouth. If you’re expecting it to help you see way back there, that’s just not what it does.

MemberMine works better when I use it with the mirror instead of trying to see everything straight on. With the light bouncing off the mirror I can actually get a decent look at the back ones without craning my neck.

MemberFair enough, seems like the light is just a small helper and not some magic tool. I’ll stop messing with weird angles trying to chase it back there and just use it where it actually shows something.
