MemberI’ve got a cat and a small apartment, so the litter box area can get a bit ripe even with regular scooping. I’ve been running my ClairLite in there for about a week on the 30-minute timer and honestly the smell does seem a little better, but it’s hard to tell if that’s the lamp or just me cleaning more. Anyone else use theirs mainly for pet smells? Curious if it actually makes a difference long term or if I’m just imagining it.

MemberI mostly use mine after the cat has been in the room, but I still scoop twice a day or it doesn’t matter. The lamp helps with that lingering funk, not the box itself. If you skip a day it comes right back, so I wouldn’t call it a fix.

Emma JarrisMemberI actually went from thinking it was doing nothing to being pretty convinced it helps, so kind of the opposite of your worry. For the first couple weeks I figured the “fresher” feeling was just in my head because I was paying more attention. Then I went on a trip for five days and left the lamp off the whole time, and wow, coming back to that apartment was a different story. Same cat, same scooping routine, but the smell had built up in a way I hadn’t noticed when the lamp was running regularly.
That trip is what sold me. Now I run it in the cat’s room a few times a week and it keeps things from ever getting to that point. It’s not like it erases a mess or anything, and I still do all the normal cleaning, but as a background thing it genuinely seems to keep the air from getting that stale litter smell.
For your situation with a small apartment, I’d say give it more than a week before you decide. The difference for me was subtle at first and then obvious once I had something to compare it to. Maybe try skipping a few days on purpose and see if you notice the smell creeping back. That’s what made it click for me anyway. How big is the room you’ve got it in?

MemberCleaning more is probably doing more than the lamp.

Daniele RossiMemberI use mine mostly for the general mustiness in my place rather than a specific pet spot, and after about a month I stopped second guessing it. The change is subtle though. It’s not like walking into a hotel lobby, more like the room just doesn’t have that stale edge it used to. I noticed it most when I came back after being away for a weekend, the apartment smelled neutral instead of stuffy.
I get why you’re unsure since you’re also cleaning more. That part muddies everything. But for me the lamp is more of a background thing that keeps the air from getting that closed up feeling. It’s not going to beat a litter box that needs scooping, nothing does. I’d say if you already like the timer and the hands off part, it’s an easy thing to keep running. Whether it’s the lamp or the extra cleaning, the room smells better, so does it really matter which one gets the credit.

MemberOdor isn’t really something UV light fixes on its own. It kills stuff on surfaces it actually hits, but cat smell comes from ammonia in urine and that bacteria in the litter itself, which the light isn’t reaching if it’s buried or under a ledge. So the smell coming back a little better after a week is probably you scooping more, not the lamp doing much. If you want a real test, stop scooping extra for a few days and see if it still smells the same. My guess is it won’t.

MemberI kind of disagree with the idea that you might be imagining it. I’ve had mine for a few months now and I use it in the room where my dog sleeps, mostly because that corner of the apartment gets that stale dog blanket smell after a couple days even when I wash stuff regularly. I run it on the longer setting while I’m out walking him, and I do notice the room smells less when I come back. It’s not like a fresh laundry smell or anything, it just smells like nothing, which is honestly what I want.
The reason I don’t think it’s just me cleaning more is that my cleaning routine hasn’t really changed. Same vacuum schedule, same laundry schedule. The only thing that changed was adding the lamp to the routine. So when the smell got better, I noticed it was happening on days I hadn’t done anything differently. That’s what convinced me it’s doing something.
That said, I don’t think it replaces scooping or washing. If I skip a day on the dog blanket it still smells, the lamp just doesn’t make it worse. So for your litter box situation I’d keep doing what you’re doing and treat the lamp as a bonus, not the main fix. A week is also pretty short. I didn’t really trust it until like a month in.

MemberProbably just clean air not uv doing anything.
27 de September de 2026 at 19:10 #13231
Lisa HallMemberA week isn’t enough to tell anything. I used mine near the cat stuff for about a month and couldn’t say it did much beyond what scooping already handled. If anything, the smell came back faster than the lamp ever kept up with.
27 de September de 2026 at 19:34 #13234
Laura CheckMemberI used mine in the laundry room where the cat stuff lives and after maybe three weeks the difference was noticeable enough that I kept it there. Not dramatic, but it did something.

MemberI picked mine up mostly because I was tired of feeling like I needed to spray something every time the room got that litter box smell. Before that I was just using a basic plug in air freshener and calling it good, which honestly just layered a fake smell on top of the real one. The difference with the lamp is that the room doesn’t smell like anything afterward. Not fresh, not floral, just neutral. That took a bit to get used to because I kept expecting a scent.
I’ve been running it in the room where the box lives for about six weeks now, usually when I’m heading out and the cat is shut in the other part of the apartment. The smell is better but I also think part of that is me being more on top of scooping because I’m paying attention to it now. So it’s kind of tangled up. What I can say is that when I skip a couple days of using it, I notice the room more. That’s about as clear as I can make it.
Long term I don’t know if it’s doing anything for the ammonia itself or if it’s just knocking down whatever is floating around in the air. Either way the room feels less stuffy. I’d say give it another couple weeks and see if you notice a difference when you forget to run it. That’s the only way I could really tell.

MemberI keep going back and forth on whether to get one for the same reason. Part of me thinks it could help between cleanings, but another part feels like the litter box smell just comes back the second the cat uses it again no matter what.
27 de September de 2026 at 20:46 #13242Mike Jensen
MemberI mostly noticed the litter box smell creeping into the hallway, and after a couple weeks of running mine in that spot it wasn’t doing much for me. Could just be my setup though.
27 de September de 2026 at 21:04 #13244Sam Writes
MemberMine didn’t do much for the litter box itself, but it helped with that stale smell that lingers in the air after scooping. That alone was worth it for me. If the box itself is the source, though, no lamp is going to fix that.
27 de September de 2026 at 21:19 #13246Emma Locke
MemberI went from thinking it was probably a gimmick to actually kind of missing it when I forget to run it. That surprised me.
For me it wasn’t the litter box itself. I still have to scoop, obviously, and if I skip a day nothing is saving me. But there’s this sort of general funk that hangs around the apartment after a while, like it just settles into the air and the couch, and that’s the part I noticed going away. Took a few weeks though, not overnight. At first I figured I was imagining it too, so I stopped using it for a bit just to see, and yeah, the smell came back. That’s what sold me.
I don’t run it constantly either. Just whenever the place is empty and I remember, which is maybe a few times a week. So I’m not saying it’s some miracle worker that replaces cleaning. It doesn’t. But it does something to that lingering background smell that regular cleaning doesn’t quite touch, at least in my place.
Anyway that’s just my experience. I don’t think you’re imagining it, but a week is pretty short to really know.
27 de September de 2026 at 21:36 #13248
Chris MillerMemberI ran mine in the cat room for about a month and didn’t notice much difference on the litter box smell. It made the room feel less stale I guess, but that pee smell stuck around.
27 de September de 2026 at 22:05 #13251Mike Harry
MemberLitter box smell is tricky because a lot of it comes from the box itself, not just the air. If the lamp is only running 30 minutes a day I doubt it’s doing much for the source, more like just freshening things up in between. Might be worth scrubbing the box itself if you haven’t in a while.
27 de September de 2026 at 22:30 #13255
Tom CallMemberIt’s probably not your imagination, but it’s also not really fixing the source. I noticed the biggest difference when the box itself was already clean and the litter was fresh. The lamp seemed to knock down that lingering smell in the air, the kind you notice when you walk back into the room after a while. It didn’t do much for the actual litter box odor if I slacked on scooping. So if you’re scooping more and running it, you might be seeing a combined effect. I don’t think it’s a long term fix for cat smells on its own, but it can help take the edge off between cleanings. I still use mine sometimes for that.
27 de September de 2026 at 22:45 #13257
Tom RayMemberI mostly use mine after vacuuming, not for the box itself. The litter box still smells like a litter box, but the room smells way less like a cat in general, which is a different thing. That part I actually notice.
