MemberQuick question before I order one: does the Qinux BreezaMax remote work if there’s stuff between you and the fan? Like if it’s on a shelf and I’m on the couch, will it still respond? Just wondering if I need to keep it in view or if it’s more forgiving.

Rachel ColeMemberIR usually needs a clear shot, so shelf blocking it is a no.

MemberMine works fine through a blanket, so not sure that’s true.

MemberMine came with the fan and I use it from the other side of the room without any issue. It’s not like a TV remote where you have to point it exactly. I’d say you’re fine leaving it on a shelf.

Nina_gadgetMemberMine actually needs a pretty clear path to work, so shelf or anything solid in the way and it just ignores me. I’ve had to angle it a bit sometimes too.

MemberI mostly just care that I don’t have to point it directly at the fan every time. In my case it works from across the room even when I’m not aiming it well, which is honestly the main thing I wanted. If I had to line it up perfectly I’d probably just get up and use the buttons instead.

EliMemberRemote on mine has been pretty forgiving. I can hit the buttons from the kitchen while it’s sitting on the desk in the other room, no direct aim needed. Only time it gets fussy is when the battery is getting low.

MemberI’d just keep it out in the open somewhere. From what I can tell with mine, sticking it behind something is asking for trouble, even if it sometimes works anyway. I wouldn’t count on it being forgiving enough for a shelf.

MemberI’d just set it somewhere with a clear view and not fight it. Mine gets moody if I tuck it next to anything solid, so I keep it on the arm of the couch and it’s fine. For the price I’m not expecting magic through walls.

MemberI’m still deciding on one myself, but the way I read it, the remote is more like a basic IR thing than Bluetooth, so furniture in between can definitely block it. If it’s sitting on a shelf with stuff in front, you’d probably have to shift a bit or lift the remote. Doesn’t seem like a dealbreaker, just something to expect.

Owen21MemberIf you’re expecting it to work through a couch cushion or from another room, that’s probably not happening. Mine is fine as long as there’s nothing solid directly in front of the fan, but the second I put a book or a mug between the remote and the unit it’s dead. I don’t think it’s Bluetooth or anything like that, just a basic signal that needs a clear path most of the time. So if you’re planning to keep it on a shelf and hit it from the couch across the room, it could work, but you’ll probably end up angling the remote around anyway. Not a dealbreaker for me but it’s not as forgiving as some people make it sound. Whether it’ll reach from wherever you’re sitting depends on your layout, I can’t say for sure.

MemberMine actually came with two remotes, which I didn’t expect. The spare one lives in a drawer and I’ve noticed it behaves a bit differently than the one I keep on the coffee table. The drawer one sometimes needs a couple presses before the fan reacts, while the table one is usually instant. Same fan, same room, just different spots. So placement of the remote itself seems to matter as much as what’s between you and the fan. I don’t know if that’s a battery thing or just how these remotes are, but it’s the one quirk I’ve run into. Either way I just grab whichever one is closest and it works fine. Not something I ever think about now.
