MemberI’ve been using the BareEarth Grounding Mat for a couple months now, mostly under my desk. It seems to do something, but I’m not sure if the cord wears out over time. Has anyone had to replace theirs? Just wondering if it’s something I should keep an eye on.

Daniele RossiMemberMine’s been plugged in since January and the cord still looks fine. I just check where it connects now and then since that bend near the plug seems like the spot that would go first. Nothing to replace yet.

MemberI’ve had mine about four months and haven’t replaced anything yet. The cord still feels solid where it clips onto the mat, so I just leave it alone. If it ever stops working I’ll deal with it then.

MemberNo clue if it’s “supposed” to be replaced on a schedule, but mine quit grounding after maybe five months of daily use. The mat still looked fine, the cord just stopped doing whatever it does. Swapped it and it worked again, so I keep a spare now.

MemberMine actually did need a new cord, but not because it wore out from normal use. My setup got moved around a lot since I use it in different spots, and the little clip part got bent out of shape after maybe three months of constantly unplugging and repositioning it. The mat itself was totally fine, it was just that connection point that stopped sitting right. So I guess my take is that it depends way more on how you handle it than on some kind of timer. If yours just stays under the desk and you never really touch the cord, you probably won’t run into what I did. I ended up just ordering a replacement cord since it was cheap enough, and honestly the mat has been working the same as before. So yeah, not really something that expires on its own in my experience.

MemberCord on mine has been fine for over a year of daily use. The part that actually goes is the little clip where it snaps on, mine got loose and I had to pinch it tighter. If it’s still grounding you’re probably fine.

Tom in NYCMemberI replace mine whenever the connection starts feeling flaky, not on some schedule. Had one go about six months in, mat was fine, cord just stopped doing whatever it does. Anyone claiming they last forever is guessing.

MemberTwo cords in a year, they just seem to go.

MemberMine’s been going strong for eight months now.

Jenna LeeMemberMine came with a spare cord in the box, which I didn’t expect. I’ve only swapped it once in about a year, and that was just because I lost the original during a move. The mat itself has held up way better than the cord situation.

Mike in TXMemberProbably an unpopular take here, but I think the cord thing gets blown out of proportion. I’ve had mine since last fall and the cord still works fine. What I did notice is that if you unplug it and plug it back in a bunch, like moving it between rooms or taking it on trips, that’s when they start acting up. Mine stays plugged into the same outlet basically 24/7 and I’ve had zero issues.
Where I’ll give the skeptics some credit though is the whole grounding thing itself. I’m not convinced the cord is the weak link, but I’m also not convinced this mat does a ton either. I use it, it feels fine, whatever. But I’m not gonna sit here and pretend I can tell the difference between using it and not using it.
Anyway, if yours is staying in one spot, I’d just leave it alone. Swapping cords every few months sounds like a setup problem more than a cord problem.

MemberI actually unplug mine when I’m not using it, and the cord has stayed in better shape than the first one I left plugged in all the time. Not sure if that’s the reason or just luck.

MemberMine’s been plugged in for about five months and I haven’t touched the cord once. I really don’t think these things wear out as fast as people make it sound. If it’s still working, it’s still working.

MemberMine actually frayed right where the cord meets the clip after about four months. I could see the little wire exposed, so I just ordered a replacement off the site. It’s not a huge deal but it does happen.

MemberCord was fine but the mat itself stopped feeling like anything after 3 months.
