L_ParkerMemberI’ve had the Qinux BreezaMax for a bit and it works fine for personal cooling. But the remote seems to only work when I’m in the same room, and even then I have to point it right at the fan. Is that just how it is? I tried using it from the hallway and nothing happened. Not a big deal, but curious if others have the same experience.

Kevin CMemberMine works from the next room with the door shut, so I don’t think walls are the issue. The remote just needs a clear line, even a doorway counts. I’ve used it from my kitchen while the fan sits in the living room and it responds fine.

MemberMine’s the same. I have to be practically next to the thing or it ignores me. For a fan this size I never expected the remote to work from another room anyway.

MemberFor what it’s worth, I actually prefer remotes that don’t reach through walls. I know that sounds odd but hear me out. I keep my fan on the dresser in my spare room and the remote lives on the nightstand in my actual bedroom. If the thing could blast through drywall I’d be switching it on and off from bed without realizing it, or worse, my kid would grab it and mess with the speed while I’m not looking. The short range kind of works like a built in limit for me. That said I get why it’s annoying if you wanted to control it from the kitchen or something. Mine only cooperates when I’m basically in the same space too, so you’re not dealing with some broken unit as far as I can tell. It just seems to be how this particular remote behaves.

Noah KentMemberI actually use mine mounted up high and the remote reaches fine from the kitchen, which is around a corner. Weird that yours won’t go through a hallway. Maybe it depends where the fan is sitting.

MemberI’ve only used mine on a desk so far and the remote works fine as long as it’s aimed at the front. What surprised me more is how quiet it is on low, my old little fan was way louder.

MemberRemote range on these little fans is just kind of random in my experience. Not this exact one, but I’ve had a couple similar portable fans where the remote was basically line of sight only, and I just got used to aiming it. What helped me was figuring out where the sensor actually sits on the unit, because on mine it was tucked off to one side and I was pointing at the wrong spot half the time. Once I started aiming there it got a lot more forgiving, though still nothing through a wall. So your hallway test probably isn’t going to work no matter what. If it bugs you, you could try swapping the battery in the remote just to rule that out, but honestly a lot of these cheap remotes are just like that. Mine lives on the nightstand next to the fan so I barely notice it now.

Tom RayMemberMine actually gets a bit further than that, I can hit it from my bedroom doorway into the living room. Maybe the angle matters more than the distance. I’d rather have that range than a remote that only works up close.

LiamWParticipantIR is line of sight, so walls blocking it is normal.

Nina_gadgetMemberMine actually surprised me the other way. I left the remote on my nightstand and it still worked from the bathroom across the hall, door mostly shut. So it might just vary unit to unit.

MemberWalls will kill it, that’s just how these remotes are. Mine only works if I’m basically facing the fan with nothing in between. From another room it’s useless, so I stopped expecting anything there.

Chris MillerMemberMine is the same way, only works if I’m basically in front of it. I tried from my kitchen once and got nothing, so I just get up now. Wasn’t expecting much from a fan remote anyway.

MemberI don’t think that’s normal. Mine reaches from the next room over without any issue, so yours might just have a weak remote or a bad unit.

L_ParkerMemberFair enough, sounds like I just have to be in the right spot for it to register. I wasn’t expecting much range anyway, just wanted to make sure mine wasn’t acting weird. Good to know it’s just how these things go. I’ll leave it at that.
