Kevin CMemberJust unboxed my Black Falcon Drone and the manual is pretty vague on the first charge. Do I need to charge it for a full 8 hours before the first flight, or is that outdated advice? I don’t want to mess up the battery right away. Also, is it okay to leave it charging overnight?

MemberOvernight charging is probably fine, the 8 hour thing is old advice.

MemberOvernight charging is how I’ve always done mine.

MemberMine actually needed a longer first charge than the manual suggested. I plugged it in thinking it would be quick and the light stayed red for close to three hours before it finally went green, so that 8 hour thing definitely is not the norm anymore. I just fly until it beeps now and top it up after.

L_ParkerMemberThe 8 hour thing is leftover from old battery types, so I would not sit there timing it. What I did with mine was plug it in and just leave it while I set up the controller and the phone app, which took way longer than I expected anyway. By the time I had everything paired the light had already gone green.
One thing I noticed though, the first couple of flights the battery dropped faster than I thought it would. Not like dying in two minutes, but it went from full to half quicker than later flights did. After maybe four or five charges it settled into a pretty predictable run time. So if your first flight feels short, that seems normal for these packs.
Overnight is fine as far as I can tell. I have left mine plugged in past the green light more than once and nothing happened. Just unplug it when you remember in the morning.

Lily___MemberI left mine plugged in overnight the first time and it was fine. The light on the charger is what I go by, not the clock. If it’s green in the morning, you’re good to fly.

Maria_BakesMemberMine took way longer than I expected the first time too, but not because of any 8 hour rule. I plugged it in and the light was still red after like two hours, which made me think something was wrong. Turns out it just charges slow when the battery is really low out of the box. After that first full charge it was normal though. The one thing I’d say is don’t leave it plugged in for days at a time. Overnight here and there is probably fine but I unplug mine once it’s done just to be safe. The manual for these things is always a bit useless honestly.
