emily_rParticipantI’m thinking about putting the BareEarth Grounding Mat under my desk while I work. Does it work better if you’re barefoot or with socks on? I usually wear socks around the house and don’t want to take them off every time. Also, does the cord get in the way when you’re sitting there for a while? Just trying to figure out the practical side of using it daily.

MemberThe sock thing is a real trade-off. I leave mine on and it still feels like something is happening, but barefoot definitely feels more noticeable. The cord bugged me more than I expected at first, though I stopped noticing after a week or so.

MemberI actually prefer mine with thin socks on because the fabric feels a little cool on bare feet during longer desk sessions. I’ve been using mine for about two months and haven’t noticed much difference either way, so I just leave my socks on.

MemberThe cord really isn’t a big deal in my experience, it just kind of stays put once you run it along the floor. I honestly forget it’s even there most days. Socks vs barefoot I can’t speak to since I only use mine barefoot, but the cord concern seems a bit overblown.

MemberI’d keep the socks on if that’s your normal thing. The mat isn’t going to care much either way, and you’re not going to get some huge difference just from bare skin. I’d be more worried about whether you actually remember to plug the thing in every day.

MemberSocks on is fine, it still works. I’ve used mine with thick socks plenty of times and never noticed a difference. The cord is the only thing that actually annoys me, it always ends up under my chair wheel.

MemberSocks never mattered for me. I actually stopped using mine under the desk after a few weeks because the mat kept sliding around on my floor and I got tired of fixing it mid-work.

TommyWiresMemberThin socks worked fine for me.

MemberSocks are a non issue, but the cord absolutely gets in the way if you just drape it wherever. I ran mine along the baseboard and taped the slack down, and now I never notice it. Took me a couple weeks of kicking it around first to bother doing that though.

MemberI usually just leave my socks on and it’s been fine for me. The mat stays put well enough that I forget about it during the day. Only thing is I had to move mine a bit closer to my chair so my feet actually rest on it.

Emma JarrisMemberI actually ended up moving mine to the side so my chair rolls over the edge instead of the mat itself. Socks on or off has never made a difference for me either way. The cord bugged me more than anything until I got a longer one.

Kevin CMemberI’d focus less on the socks and more on whether you actually remember to use the thing. That was my problem. I had a mat set up under my desk for about two months and the sock question never crossed my mind because I was wearing them the whole time anyway. What killed it for me was just forgetting it was even there. I’d sit down, get into work, and realize three hours later my feet were nowhere near it. So I started treating it like part of the setup, shoes off or not, and made a point of parking my feet on it when I sat down.
The cord bugged me more than anything. I get why it needs to reach an outlet, but it’s just another thing to deal with in a small space. I don’t think socks change much either way. Bare feet feel a bit more obvious I guess, but I never noticed a real difference in how I felt.

MemberWith socks, the mat still seems to do its thing in my experience. I keep mine right under my chair and just rest my feet on it out of habit now, socks and all.

MemberMine stays put but the cord is annoying.

MemberSocks don’t block it, that part’s overblown.

MemberMine stays put, the cord just tucks behind the desk.

MemberThe cord was my main issue too. I ended up running it along the back edge of the desk and taping it down so my feet don’t catch it. Socks on is fine, never noticed a difference either way.

MemberSocks on is fine in my experience, but I still notice more when I’m barefoot. If taking socks off all day sounds annoying, I’d just leave them on and not stress it.

Linda RobinsonMemberBarefoot makes a difference for me, socks dull it.

Tom in NYCMemberSocks are fine. I’ve used mine with thick wool socks all winter and it still does whatever it does. The cord is the real annoyance, not the socks.

MemberI’ve had mine under my desk for a few months now and the cord hasn’t been an issue at all. I just looped it around the back leg of the desk so it stays out of the way when I slide my chair in and out. Socks or no socks, doesn’t really change anything for me.
