JetClean vs old hose nozzle for car washing?

I actually disagree with the idea that it’s just a gadget. I borrowed my brother’s JetClean for a couple of weekends specifically because my hose nozzle was driving me up the wall with how little it did against dried dirt. The difference was obvious the first time I used it. With the hose, I’d soak the car, scrub, soak again, scrub again, and still see that brown film hanging around on the lower doors and rocker panels. With the JetClean on the narrower setting, that stuff came off in one pass. I didn’t have to keep going back over the same spot.

The part that surprised me was how much less water I went through. I filled a bucket, dropped the intake hose in, and got the whole car done without refilling, which never happens with my garden hose setup. I know that sounds like a small thing, but when you’re dragging a hose around the driveway and fighting the kinks, having no cord and no faucet connection is a big deal for me. I did the wheels first, then the body, and still had battery left when I finished.

It’s not going to blast off caked-on mud the way a big pressure washer would, but you said you don’t need pro-level power. For normal road grime and dust, it’s a real step up from a plain sprayer. I’m planning to get my own instead of borrowing his again, mostly because I got tired of handing it back.

I switched from a hose nozzle to a JetClean a few months back and the difference is real. The spray actually has some bite to it, so mud and road grime come off without me scrubbing half as long. It’s not a full pressure washer, but for quick washes it does the job fine.

I got one mainly for washing my bike and the occasional patio chair, not really for the car. It does hit harder than a garden hose for sure, but I still end up doing a quick pass with a sponge for anything stuck on. For mud and loose dirt it’s fine on its own.

Mine mostly gets used for rinsing off the car between actual washes. It’s handy for that since I don’t have to drag out the hose, but I still do the real cleaning with a bucket.

The pressure thing is kind of overblown on paper but in real use it does make a difference with mud. I mostly grab mine for the wheel wells now, way less scrubbing there. Still use the hose for the rest though.

Mine actually stays in the trunk now, which I didn’t expect. It’s less about raw pressure and more that I’ll actually use it for a quick rinse when I’d never bother dragging the hose out. Battery is the tradeoff though, I’ve had it die halfway through a wash more than once.

I’ve had mine since spring and the pressure difference over a hose nozzle is real, especially on caked on stuff. I don’t even bother with the bucket half the time now, just soak, spray, wipe. It’s not going to strip paint or anything but it definitely cuts down the scrubbing.

My view on this flipped twice, which I didn’t expect. When the JetClean first started showing up in threads like this I figured it was a toy, one of those gadgets you use twice and then it lives on a shelf. Then I borrowed one from my brother for a weekend of cleaning the balcony and the car, and I came away thinking the pressure is fine for what it is. Not amazing, just fine.

What changed my mind wasn’t the power though. It was how little water it uses and how fast I could just grab it and go. With my hose setup there’s always the drag of unrolling everything, connecting, dealing with the kinks, and by the time I’m done I’ve used way more water than I needed. The JetClean felt lighter on that front.

The part I’m still unsure about is whether that convenience is worth it long term for someone who already has a working hose. I keep going back and forth because the hose never needs charging and never runs out mid job. So I’m not fully convinced yet, but I’m closer to buying than I was a month ago.
