Rob CMemberGot a flight coming up and wondering if the offline translation on these SonaBuds is worth relying on. I tried it once at home and it felt a bit slow. Does it actually work for basic stuff or am I better off just downloading phrasebooks?

SarahMParticipantI think it works okay for really basic stuff like ordering food or asking simple questions, but I wouldnt rely on it for anything important or fast. The slowness is real, so maybe keep a phrasebook as backup just in case.

northshoreParticipantEh, I’ve used the offline mode a few times and it’s fine for like a yes or no thing or pointing at a menu item. I wouldn’t bother with phrasebooks unless you’re planning on having a deep chat. It’s a bit slow but gets the point across.

StanMemberI used them on a layover once and it worked well enough for basic stuff at a cafe. Not super fast, but I got by. I’d probably still grab a phrasebook as a backup though, just to be safe.

MemberHonestly, I tried the offline mode once out of curiosity and it was a bit sluggish for me too. I wouldn’t rely on it for anything fast-paced, but for ordering food or simple directions it might get the job done. I’d probably just download a phrasebook as a backup and use the buds if you feel like it.

MemberOffline mode is fine for basic stuff, I wouldn’t overthink it. Used mine a few times on the subway without any real issues.

Daniele RossiMemberI tried offline mode on mine a few times and it worked fine for basic questions. A bit slower than online but still got the point across. I’d trust it for simple travel stuff.

pixelnomadParticipantI’m in the same boat, wondering if it’s worth the hassle. Downloaded the language packs but haven’t put them to a real test yet.

Carla82MemberI gave the offline mode a shot in a busy airport lounge and it was hit or miss. Worked fine for simple stuff like asking for directions but stumbled on anything remotely casual. I wouldn’t rely on it for anything important, but it beats flipping through a phrasebook if you’re just ordering coffee.

Rob CMemberGuess I’ll just stick with the phrasebook for now. Thanks for the replies, saved me the hassle of testing it mid-flight.

MemberI messed with the offline mode once while waiting at the dentist and it was a little slow, but it still got the job done for asking simple stuff. I’d probably trust it for basic travel phrases, just don’t expect it to be super fast.

Nina_gadgetMemberHonestly I think it works fine for what it is. Took mine on a trip to a market and got by just asking basic stuff without any issue. It’s not instant but I’d rather have it than flip through a phrasebook.

L_ParkerMemberI’ve used the offline mode on mine a few times and it’s been fine for simple stuff like asking directions or ordering food. The delay is there but not bad enough to make me pull out a phrasebook instead.

Zoe MatthewsMemberI’ve actually used the offline mode a few times and it worked well enough for me. The delay is there but it didn’t ruin the conversation or anything. I’d say it’s fine for basic stuff unless you’re expecting super fast back and forth.

Rob CMemberGuess I’ll keep them in the case and see how it goes on the flight. Might still grab a phrasebook just in case. Thanks for the input.
