Been using a Ryoko Pro for a few months while traveling and it mostly makes life easier. Roaming with its SIM is super convenient so I don’t have to faff with local cards, but the signal drops a bit on trains and in some hotels. Battery gives me around half a day with light use so I usually carry a power bank. Anyone else notice roaming speeds worse than local SIMs or have tips to get a bit more runtime?

Yep, roaming felt slower for me too, phone often ends up on a weaker partner network so local SIMs beat it on trains. If you want more runtime turn off auto sync, cut brightness and background apps, or just keep a tiny power bank. If you need consistent speed, swap to a local SIM.

I think Ryoko’s roaming gets sketchy on trains and in some hotels, really annoying when it drops mid-thing. Yep, mine dropped a bit after a few months, looked like normal wear. Firmware updates, not leaving it on 24/7, and doing an occasional full charge/discharge helped a little, plus airplane mode during long stretches. Dimming LEDs and kicking off extra devices saved me an extra hour or so.

Thanks RyanT, good tips. I’ve been keeping firmware up to date and do pop into airplane mode on long runs, that helps but I still get about half a day with light use. I’ll try dimming the LEDs and disconnecting a couple gadgets to squeeze extra time. Still carry a tiny power bank but overall it’s handy even if trains are flaky.

Battery life is what it is for something this small, I just plug it in when I’m at a cafe or in the hotel room and it’s fine. Roaming speeds have been okay for me, never really noticed a huge difference unless I’m in the middle of nowhere.
