Been using the Qinux HydroXeltor for a few weeks now, mostly on the patio and car. Tried it on the windows today and I’m wondering if I’m doing something wrong, or if it just doesn’t do windows well. The water pressure is fine, but it seems to leave a bit of a film. Anyone else notice that?

Funny you mention that, because I had the exact same first impression when I tried it on my house windows. I was starting to think I was using it wrong too. But after a couple more tries, I kind of changed my mind about it.

I noticed the film was mostly there when I was too close to the glass or using the highest pressure setting. It almost felt like the water was bouncing back and drying weird. When I stood back a bit more and let the water do its thing, it seemed to clear up a lot better. Still not perfect, but way less streaky than I thought at first.

It is still my main tool for the patio and the car, that’s where it shines. For the windows I would say it’s fine for a quick rinse, but if you want that spotless, no-streak look, you are probably still going to need a squeegee or a cloth after. I don’t think it’s a defect or anything, just the nature of the thing. It’s not a proper window washer, it’s a hose nozzle that happens to work okay on glass.

I haven’t fully given up on it for windows, just adjusted what I expect from it.

That film goes away once the nozzle dries if you hold it at an angle.

I’ve had mine since early summer and I honestly don’t think it’s built for streak-free glass. I use it for the driveway and the patio furniture mostly, and it’s great for that. But the few times I tried it on the greenhouse panes out back, I noticed the same kind of filmy haze you’re describing. It’s not terrible, but it’s definitely not the same as when I just use the hose with a regular spray nozzle and let the water run off naturally.

I think part of it is that the concentrated jet is so narrow that it almost pushes the dirt around instead of washing it clean off in one go. On textured surfaces you don’t notice that, but on glass you see every little streak. I also found that if the water is even slightly hard, the film gets worse as it dries.

I’ve just stopped using it on windows altogether. It’s not worth the extra fiddling when a plain hose does the job better for that specific thing. I keep it for the stuff it actually handles well, like caked-on mud on the patio slabs or the car wheels. For windows, I’ll stick with the old method. You’re not doing anything wrong, it’s just not the right tool for that surface.

I was pretty convinced this thing just wasn’t meant for glass when I first got mine. I tried it on the living room windows early on and got that same cloudy look you are describing. It bugged me for a bit, then I just moved on and used it for the fence and the walkway.

But then a couple of weeks ago I had the hose out anyway and figured I would give the windows another shot. I think the difference was I stopped trying to get the glass super clean in one pass. I used a wider spray and kept the nozzle moving a lot faster than I do on the patio. That film basically disappeared. I honestly think I was just holding it in one spot too long and letting the water sit and dry weird.

The car windows still give me a little trouble if the sun is beating down on them. I will say that. But the house windows are fine now that I changed how I move my hand. I would not call it a streak-free miracle tool or anything, but it is not as bad as I first thought. I just had to adjust what I was expecting from it.

I gave up on glass pretty quick with mine. It works great for the siding and the deck, but windows just aren’t its thing. That film is probably just the water not sheeting off cleanly, so you end up with that residue once it dries. I just keep a squeegee around for the glass and use this for everything else.

Honestly, if you’re getting a film on glass, that’s just what this thing does. I wouldn’t chase a perfect streak-free finish with it. It’s more of a general “blast the grime off” tool than a detailing tool.

I’ve had mine for about a month and a half now. I don’t bother with the windows anymore, because that residue is just annoying to deal with. I mostly use it for the fence and the walkway, where you don’t care about a little leftover water spotting. It’s great for that, but for glass, I just grab the regular hose with a spray nozzle and a squeegee. Takes a bit longer, but at least I’m not wiping down a film afterward.

If you’re set on using the HydroXeltor for the car windows, you could try wiping them down with a dry microfiber cloth right after. But if you’re like me, you bought this to avoid extra work, not to add more steps to the cleaning process. I’d say just accept it for what it is and use it for the rough stuff. For the windows, stick to whatever you were using before. That film isn’t going anywhere.

Mine does the same thing on glass. I tried it on the storm door and figured I had the angle wrong, so I messed with it a bit. Still got that haze once it dried. I think it’s just the way the water comes out of this thing, it doesn’t have that fine spray you need for glass. It’s fine for hosing down the fence and the bird bath, but I wouldn’t bother using it on anything you want to see through. You’re not doing anything wrong, it’s just not what this nozzle is good at. I just keep a regular spray bottle and a squeegee for the windows and use this thing for the rough stuff.

My neighbor borrowed mine for her gutters and mentioned the same thing about her kitchen windows. I mainly use mine on the porch screens and the grill, so I never really paid attention to the glass. It does seem like it’s more of a heavy-duty rinse tool than a detailer.

The way I look at it, windows are kind of a side thing for this. Since it runs off regular hose pressure, it’s never gonna give you that crisp finish like a proper pressure washer. I mostly use it for hosing down the boat cover and the back steps where you just need to blast stuff off, not make it spotless.

I’ve seen a few people online expecting it to do everything, but it’s really just a better hose nozzle. I wouldn’t stress about the film too much. If you want clean glass, a squeegee and some spray takes two minutes. I use mine for the rough jobs and leave the windows for the old-fashioned way.

Mine leaves a film too but I noticed it depends on how far I hold the nozzle from the glass. Close up it’s fine, back off a bit and it smears. So I just keep it tight to the window and it does the job well enough. Not perfect but passable.

I keep mine away from glass at this point. The film is worse when the water isn’t hot, and I don’t think it’s the tool, it’s just how it sprays. I ended up switching back to a squeegee for windows and use this for everything else. It’s not a dealbreaker for me, just a known limit.

I actually haven’t had that issue on my windows yet, which is funny because I mostly bought it for the car. I’ve done the sliding glass door a couple times and it came out fine, no film that I noticed. Maybe it depends on the water where you live or something.

Guess it’s just the nature of the thing then. I’ll stick to using it on the patio and save the glass for something else. Good to know I wasn’t messing it up somehow.
